Job Purpose

This role involves formulating and executing the Bank’s performance management strategies and policies to enhance staff productivity, retain top talent, and foster motivation, all while maintaining alignment with business objectives, regulatory standards, and market competitiveness. The position requires establishing a high-performance culture throughout the organization and closing the divide between corporate goals and employee by overseeing the complete performance management process, administering incentive and reward systems, and leveraging key data to inform strategic business decisions.

We are seeking a results-driven professional to oversee and enhance employee performance through strategic assessment and development initiatives. The ideal candidate will design and implement performance management systems, conduct regular evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to foster continuous improvement. Responsibilities include setting clear performance expectations, tracking progress against goals, and identifying opportunities for skill enhancement. Additionally, the role requires analyzing performance data to inform workforce planning and talent development strategies. The successful applicant must possess strong analytical skills, proficiency in HR software, and the ability to collaborate with leadership to align performance metrics with organizational objectives. A background in human resources, business administration, or a related field is preferred.

Spearhead the development, execution, and ongoing enhancement of the performance management framework throughout the Bank.

Oversee the annual performance management process, encompassing goal establishment, mid-year assessments, and year-end evaluations.

Oversee organization-wide initiatives aimed at designing, implementing, and maintaining performance management and improvement programs through data-driven methodologies, aligning priorities with evolving strategic objectives to drive continuous enhancement.

Design and oversee impactful leadership, employee development, and talent management strategies to bridge performance gaps stemming from capacity and knowledge deficiencies among staff, while also optimizing talent sourcing, management, and mobility initiatives.

Deliver comprehensive training and ongoing assistance to line managers and staff to ensure successful attainment of Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) objectives.

Establish a culture of high performance by implementing strategic goal setting, conducting thorough performance evaluations, and introducing pay-for-performance programs.

Maintain equitable, clear, and unbiased performance evaluations and feedback mechanisms.

Analyze performance metrics to derive actionable insights that drive talent development initiatives, inform succession planning strategies, and guide rewards-related decisions.

Implement organization-wide initiatives aimed at cultivating and sustaining a high-performance culture across all levels of the enterprise.

We will establish a structured framework to monitor progress from initial goal setting through mid-year reviews and culminating in end-of-year evaluations, thereby enhancing individual, team, and organizational performance.

Ensure targeted communication and capacity-building initiatives within the performance management framework, empowering managers to accurately assess and measure individual and team performance while driving enhanced productivity and effectiveness.

Periodically administer salary and compensation surveys to verify that the Bank’s remuneration packages consistently maintain competitiveness and alignment with prevailing market and industry benchmarks.

The oversight of governance frameworks and the preparation of comprehensive reports are integral responsibilities of this role, ensuring compliance, transparency, and strategic alignment across organizational operations. Proficiency in regulatory requirements, risk management, and data analysis is essential, along with the ability to interpret complex frameworks and communicate insights effectively to stakeholders at all levels. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and accountability are required to support informed decision-making and drive continuous improvement within the organization.

Compile and submit regulatory and management reports in accordance with applicable requirements, including those mandated by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

Ensure adherence to all applicable tax legislation, employment regulations, and financial compliance standards pertinent to performance management processes.

Ensure meticulous and secure documentation of performance results.

Lead the creation and implementation of comprehensive talent analytics, focusing on key areas such as performance metrics, workforce trend analysis, succession planning, and identification of critical roles, while also encompassing other relevant talent-related data.

Job requirements include a minimum of five years of relevant experience in the field, along with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in project management and possess strong analytical skills. Additional qualifications include excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, and the capacity to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Familiarity with industry-standard software and tools is also required.

A significant degree of discretion and sound decision-making is essential across various aspects of this role, including the analysis of complex situations, evaluation of potential risks, and determination of appropriate actions to achieve optimal outcomes.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, finance, or a closely related discipline is required.

Professional certification in Human Resources or Reward Management, such as CIPD, GRP, or CHRIS, would be considered a valuable asset.
