Job Summary

The Digital Scholarship Centre Lead will drive the adoption and integration of digital media services, advocate for innovative media technologies, and manage the creation of multimedia resources tailored for AKU faculty, students, and staff. Additionally, the role will provide strategic support to advance the university’s core objectives in teaching, learning, and research.

Oversee and execute key operational duties to ensure seamless workflow efficiency, maintaining high standards of performance and productivity across all assigned tasks. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align objectives, troubleshoot challenges, and implement solutions that drive continuous improvement. Monitor progress through regular evaluations, providing constructive feedback and fostering an environment of accountability. Develop and refine processes to optimize resource utilization, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance overall quality. Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to recommend innovative strategies that support organizational goals. Ensure compliance with established policies, regulations, and safety protocols while promoting a culture of transparency and teamwork. Serve as a trusted liaison between leadership, staff, and external stakeholders to facilitate clear communication and alignment.

Oversee the comprehensive operations of the Digital Scholarship Centre, spearheading initiatives that foster its expansion, innovation, and enduring viability.

Spearhead the archiving and preservation initiatives for Aga Khan University’s scholarly publications and research outputs, ensuring their long-term accessibility and integrity.

Deliver technical assistance for digital research platforms, library technologies, and information systems, encompassing RFID solutions and the Library Management System.

Facilitate the adoption and implementation of innovative media technologies to enhance educational experiences and scholarly pursuits.

Oversee the continuous management and upkeep of the AKU Library’s electronic databases, guaranteeing their precision, seamless accessibility, and ongoing currency.

Create high-quality graphic design, branding, and publicity materials for AKU publications, events, and marketing campaigns, ensuring a professional and cohesive visual identity.

Revise and manage the institutional digital repository, intranet pages, and web portals for AKU libraries across East Africa to ensure accurate, up-to-date content and seamless functionality.

Design and curate Lib Guides, deliver online learning resources, and create digital courses to enhance academic program offerings.

Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, along with a minimum of two years of professional experience in a comparable role. Proficiency in industry-standard software tools is required, along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills are essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment is also necessary. Prior experience in project coordination or a related discipline is strongly preferred.

A master’s degree in Information Systems or a closely related field, along with an equivalent qualification in a pertinent discipline, is required.

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Multimedia Technology, or a closely related discipline is required.

A minimum of five years of professional experience within a fast-paced academic environment is required.

Demonstrated expertise in overseeing a digital repository and/or institutional archive, ideally through Digital Commons, is required.

Proven expertise in creating online courses and e-learning materials, coupled with strong skills in graphic design and web development tools.

Proficiency in utilizing Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and online discovery/search platforms is required.

Demonstrates expertise in cutting-edge technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital advancements.

Proven proficiency in scholarly communication and research support services is required.

Skilled in creating comprehensive library guides, subject-specific resources, and other research assistance tools.

Proficiency in macOS and Windows operating systems is required.
