Role Summary
The English Teacher will design and deliver dynamic, inquiry-based instruction to cultivate students’ proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and critical analysis. This position requires the planning and execution of lessons aligned with IB standards, the use of criterion-based assessments to measure learning outcomes, and the encouragement of a profound appreciation for language and literature. Additionally, the teacher will nurture students’ holistic growth, foster independent reasoning, and help sustain a collaborative and inclusive educational setting.
Additionally, this role may include the responsibilities of Head of Department, offering leadership, overseeing curriculum development, and fostering ongoing advancements in teaching and learning quality.
Oversee and execute a range of critical duties to ensure operational excellence, including managing daily workflows, coordinating team efforts, and maintaining high standards of quality across all deliverables. Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with organizational objectives, while fostering collaboration among departments to enhance productivity and efficiency. Monitor performance metrics, analyze data trends, and recommend improvements to optimize processes and drive continuous growth. Additionally, ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal policies through diligent oversight and proactive risk management. Lead cross-functional initiatives, mentor team members, and cultivate a culture of accountability and innovation to achieve long-term success.
Develop and execute meticulously structured English lessons that adhere rigorously to the IB (MYP & DP) curriculum standards, ensuring consistently high-quality instructional delivery.
Enhance students’ proficiencies in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and literary analysis through targeted instructional strategies and engaging activities.
Encourage the development of analytical reasoning, innovative thought processes, and a deep respect for varied literary works and viewpoints.
Craft differentiated instructional strategies tailored to accommodate a broad spectrum of student learning abilities and needs.
Employ inquiry-driven, student-focused instructional methodologies to facilitate learning.
Develop formative and summative assessments aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) criteria.
Deliver prompt, actionable feedback while meticulously documenting student advancements in progress records.
Facilitate comprehensive preparation for both internal evaluations and external assessments, such as those administered by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
Foster a classroom environment that prioritizes safety, inclusivity, and engagement for all students.
Serve as a Homeroom Tutor, providing personalized academic assistance and addressing students’ pastoral care requirements.
Engage actively in extracurricular programs, including debate societies, dramatic arts ensembles, and literary or writing circles.
Proactively interact with parents via scheduled conferences and established communication channels to ensure ongoing engagement and collaboration.
Partner with fellow educators to develop comprehensive curriculum frameworks and actively engage in school-wide strategic initiatives.
The requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience is required. Proficiency in Python, Java, or C++ is essential. At least three years of professional experience in software development is mandatory. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent teamwork skills are necessary. Candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions within tight deadlines.
Earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, concentrating on English, Literature, or an equivalent field, from an accredited institution.
Candidates presently based in Kenya must hold a valid registration with the Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC).
Proven expertise in instructing within a multicultural, international school setting, coupled with a deep grasp of student-centered, inquiry-driven teaching methodologies.
With a minimum of two to three years of hands-on experience teaching the IB Middle Years Program and/or the IB Diploma—alongside comparable academic frameworks—within an international school environment, you bring a strong foundation in inquiry-based and concept-driven instruction.
