About the role
The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of expert technical support for a cross-border initiative aimed at bolstering digital competencies and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities. In addition to this critical responsibility, the position will advocate for greater workplace and labor market inclusion of people with disabilities across seven nations in East, West, and Southern Africa.
The GTL will be responsible for designing and delivering the program in accordance with Sight savers’ thematic and strategic frameworks, while spearheading forward-thinking, inclusive methodologies to foster systemic transformation and long-term, sustainable outcomes.
This position requires full-time, on-site work at the Sight savers’ office located in Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi, with the employee expected to be present five days each week.
Conducts a wide range of duties to ensure efficient operations, including managing daily tasks, overseeing workflows, and maintaining high productivity standards. Develops and implements strategies to enhance performance, streamlines processes where necessary, and provides guidance to team members to achieve organizational objectives. Collaborates with cross-functional departments to align efforts, resolves operational challenges, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement. Monitors key performance indicators to assess progress, reports findings to leadership, and recommends corrective actions when required. Ensures compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety protocols while upholding quality and service excellence.
Deliver high-level technical guidance to a multinational initiative aimed at enhancing digital competencies and employment opportunities for young individuals with disabilities, while simultaneously promoting disability inclusion within workplaces and labor markets throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.
Collaborate effectively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to deliver program objectives cohesively and with high impact.
Spearhead transformative initiatives by designing and executing pioneering strategies that elevate the quality, impact, and long-term sustainability of Sight savers’ mission-driven work.
Your role will involve collaborating on interdepartmental initiatives focused on research, innovation, policy development, advocacy, and communications, partnering with both internal colleagues and external stakeholders to drive collective impact.
As a senior representative for Sight savers, you will leverage your expertise in digital inclusion and the digital economy to engage with national, regional, and international networks, conferences, and sector platforms.
The position requires travel commitments amounting to a maximum of 12 weeks annually.

This position requires a strategic collaborator with a proven ability to work effectively across varied teams and regions. The role entails up to 12 weeks of international travel annually to facilitate program implementation and foster stakeholder relationships.
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience is required, along with a minimum of 3–5 years of related work experience. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential, as is the capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are also necessary to effectively convey ideas and information. Familiarity with industry-specific software and tools is preferred. The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines is crucial. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Essential:
A master’s degree or beyond (with a Ph.D. strongly preferred) in digital economy, digital policy, digital or economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a closely related field—or equivalent professional experience—is required.
Proficiency in contemporary discussions and challenges surrounding artificial intelligence and digital technologies, along with their impacts on skills’ development, employment, decent work, and labor markets within African and Global South contexts, is essential.
Professional candidates will have a proven track record of designing, implementing, and scaling programs focused on enhancing digital skills, providing targeted training, and facilitating smooth transitions into employment—particularly within regions of the global South.
Individuals should possess a background in non-governmental or non-profit organizations, with a focus on administration and oversight of programs financed by donors.
Demonstrates a strong track record of collaborating with diverse labor market stakeholders—particularly within the private sector—to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work standards.
Proficient in the latest advancements in AI and digital technologies, with a keen awareness of their transformative effects on employment and labor markets across African and Global South regions.
Proficient in both spoken and written English, with a strong aptitude for crafting comprehensive reports and delivering impactful presentations.
Aptitude for analytical and strategic thinking is essential, enabling the development of plans that align with both programmatic objectives and broader organizational goals.
Proven ability to lead teams effectively, cultivate strong professional relationships, and engage stakeholders with diplomacy and tact.
Experience working on TVET systems.
Deep experience collaborating with tripartite labor market stakeholders—with a focused emphasis on the private sector, particularly within digital industries—to enhance employment and decent work outcomes.
Demonstrated skill in fostering cross-functional partnerships and thriving in multicultural team environments.
Developing and refining technical guidance and programming tools represents a key area of expertise.

Able to travel internationally for up to 12 weeks annually, demonstrating both willingness and capability to do so.
