The performance of the Accounting & Finance Associate plays a pivotal role in optimizing resource allocation, ensuring accurate financial documentation, and maintaining robust accounting and reporting standards. This position’s contributions are instrumental in enhancing management oversight, facilitating informed decision-making processes, and upholding stringent quality control measures.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities include overseeing critical functions within the organization to ensure operational efficiency and strategic alignment. Prepare and support the creation of financial reports, compile data, and respond to queries to uphold compliance and maintain precision in reporting.
As the Local Finance Focal Point, you will be responsible for reviewing invoices, confirming their accuracy, validating calculations, and ensuring timely submissions to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records by overseeing and verifying expenditures, balances, and payment transactions on a daily basis.
Select, validate, and input information collected from a variety of sources while maintaining strict standards for completeness and precision.
Prepare recurring and special reports, including scheduled and ad-hoc submissions, to support audits, budgetary assessments, and other operational requirements.
Support the year-end financial statement preparation and account closure processes to ensure accurate and timely completion of annual financial records.
The position involves offering expert counsel to employees and consultants regarding allowances, expense reimbursements, and related financial concerns.
Initiate correspondence to validate information and address discrepancies promptly.
Maintains and enhances relationships with local banking institutions, tracks and analyzes exchange rate fluctuations, and conducts detailed reconciliation procedures.
The role involves developing cost estimates and participating in budget analysis initiatives and projects.
As an advocate for every child, you will need to meet the following qualifications.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, along with at least three years of hands-on experience in software development or a comparable technical role. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ is required, along with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Familiarity with version control systems like Git and experience with Agile or Scrum methodologies are also essential. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to effectively convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Completion of secondary education is mandatory for this role.
A minimum of six years of professional experience in finance and accounting is required for consideration.
Requires expertise in developing and overseeing project plans, objectives, and deliverables, alongside monitoring resources such as time, budget, and team contributions while proactively identifying potential risks. Demands strong analytical capabilities to assess data, pinpoint challenges, and deliver actionable insights to support strategic decision-making. Demonstrates proficiency in leveraging digital tools, AI-driven platforms, and business systems to enhance data quality, analysis, and reporting efficiency.
Proficiency in English is a mandatory requirement for this position.
Desirables:
Proficiency in an additional official United Nations language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or the local dialect of the assigned duty station is highly advantageous.
Highly desirable are professional and/or university-level courses in finance and accounting.
Experience at the country level, especially within development initiatives, fragile environments, and humanitarian operations, is highly beneficial.
