Position Summary:

The HIV Epidemiologist will deliver specialized technical advisory services and innovative thought leadership in the areas of HIV surveillance, epidemiological analysis, data modeling, and implementation science within Palladium Kenya’s health initiatives. This position plays a key role in advancing national and county-level use of HIV data, program evaluation efforts, and analytics that directly inform policy decisions.

Location:

The role is situated within the Palladium Kenya office located in Nairobi.

Oversee and execute the key duties and functions associated with this position, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and industry standards. Assume responsibility for a range of critical tasks, including but not limited to strategic planning, operational execution, and performance monitoring. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive efficiency, innovation, and continuous improvement across all assigned responsibilities. Maintain a high standard of professionalism while adhering to established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Provide leadership and guidance to team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence in all operational and strategic initiatives.

Offer expert technical support in HIV epidemiological analysis, modeling, and the application of routinely collected program and surveillance data.

Drive and facilitate the execution of implementation science, operational research, and evaluation initiatives focused on HIV and tuberculosis programs.

Technical support will be provided to the Ministry of Health (MOH), the United States Government (USG), and other relevant stakeholders in the areas of data modeling and epidemiological assessment.

Develop protocols, ensure data quality, and handle ethical and nonresearch determinations.

Craft comprehensive analytical deliverables such as reports, abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and policy briefs of the highest caliber.

Support capacity-building initiatives by designing training materials and leading stakeholder training sessions.

Key qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent work experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and strong analytical skills are essential. Prior experience in project management or a related role is preferred, along with excellent communication and organizational abilities. The ability to work independently as well as part of a team is required. Candidates must demonstrate attention to detail and a commitment to meeting deadlines. Knowledge of industry-specific software or tools is a plus.

An advanced degree at the Master’s level or beyond in Epidemiology, Public Health, Statistics, Health Systems, or a related discipline is required.

With a minimum of five years of professional experience in public health research, evaluation, or implementation science—ideally within the context of HIV/TB—you will bring a proven track record of applying methodological expertise to complex health challenges.

Experiencing a significant track record of scholarly contributions through peer-reviewed publications is essential, with a particular emphasis on first-author articles where applicable.

Experienced in utilizing advanced epidemiological and statistical analysis tools, including State, R, SAS, SPSS, and Python.

Proficiency in utilizing Kenya’s National Data Warehouse or comparable large-scale health data systems would be advantageous.

Dynamic stakeholder engagement abilities, a proven track record in leadership roles, and exceptional proficiency in technical writing are essential.

Proficiency in both written and spoken English is essential.
