Key Result Areas:

Investment Teams undertake the critical task of sourcing potential acquisition targets, conducting thorough due diligence assessments, and overseeing the continuous asset management of investments within the portfolio. In this capacity, the Sustainability Manager contributes valuable insights throughout the due diligence phase while maintaining an active role in the supervision, tracking, and enhancement of the fund manager’s asset portfolio. The investment scope encompasses core infrastructure assets, including toll roads, airports, ports, and renewable energy facilities such as wind, hydro, and solar projects, as well as digital and telecoms towers. Additionally, the team evaluates medium-to-large enterprises operating across the African continent.

You will be responsible for:

Collaborating closely with the fund manager to gain a comprehensive understanding of their business operations, you will provide support in shaping and implementing the ESG and impact strategy, while serving as the primary liaison between the fund manager and relevant stakeholders.

Ensure the environment and social management systems of the fund manager are comprehensively understood, actively driven, and continuously improved where necessary.

Support OMAR’s investment teams in conducting thorough ESG due diligence to evaluate whether prospective investments align with established ESG criteria, including the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI), the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, IFC Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Guidelines, IFC Sector Guidelines, ILO standards, and other pertinent frameworks.

Offer strategic guidance spanning diverse industries and investment categories to adeptly oversee ESG risks while advancing the realization of meaningful, positive outcomes.

Examine the sustainability dimensions of projects and support specialists in executing initiatives while ensuring adherence to contractual obligations concerning the sustainability criteria of the various funds’ assets.

Assist asset managers in overseeing and guiding assets to fulfill their sustainability commitments, which may involve site visits and direct interactions with management teams.

Compilation and delivery of investor and sustainability reports, alongside addressing ad-hoc investor/shareholder ESG-related inquiries and fostering client engagement are required.

We gather, organize, and interpret sustainability data to generate valuable insights, serving both internal stakeholders and external clients.

Investment teams receive comprehensive training on sustainability-related topics to enhance their knowledge and capabilities in this critical area.

Ensure adherence to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) requirements in fund operations.

Serving as the public face of OMAR, you will represent the organization in discussions and engagements focused on Sustainability on various platforms. Your role involves articulating OMAR’s positions, initiatives, and commitments in these forums to enhance visibility, foster stakeholder engagement, and advocate for sustainable practices.

Represent OMAR in various governance forums and committees, engaging with stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory standards.

Offer strategic vision and innovative solutions to establish industry leadership, producing high-impact deliverables that drive forward-thinking initiatives and shape organizational direction.

Seeking a candidate with a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience, complemented by a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Proficiency in project management methodologies, data analysis, and advanced software tools is required. Additionally, the ideal applicant must demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced environments. Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance standards is also essential.

Applicants must possess academic credentials or professional experience in environmental or social sciences, encompassing disciplines such as ecology, sustainability studies, sociology, or related fields. These qualifications should demonstrate a strong foundation in analyzing ecological systems, social dynamics, or their intersections.

With a minimum of ten years of hands-on experience in a related field, you will bring a wealth of expertise to this role.

Proficient French language skills are required, including both verbal and written fluency, as this role demands regular communication with stakeholders in French-speaking regions.

Professional registration or certification pertinent to the field is required.

Proficiency in sustainability frameworks, including UN PRI, the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, IFC EHS Guidelines, ILO, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, along with familiarity with other pertinent sustainability standards and guidelines, is required.

Professional experience encompassing the comprehensive field of ESG, with particular expertise in Environmental and Social (ES) Screening, ES Impact Assessments (Elias), ES Due Diligence, Risk Assessment, and ES Management Systems (SMS). Demonstrated proficiency in leveraging specialized knowledge in biodiversity, biophysical and socio-economic domains, as well as extensive involvement in climate change initiatives spanning mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Proficiency in evaluating sustainability considerations inherent to large-scale infrastructure initiatives, such as those in the oil and gas, thermal power, renewable energy, roadway, and maritime sectors, is required.

Proficiency in developing and overseeing environmental and social management frameworks and strategies within construction and operational enterprises is required.
