Role Summary

The English Teacher will craft and deliver dynamic, inquiry-driven lessons to cultivate students’ proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and critical reasoning. This position entails designing and executing lesson plans aligned with IB standards, evaluating progress through criterion-referenced assessments, and nurturing a profound understanding of language and literature. Additionally, the teacher will facilitate comprehensive student growth, encourage autonomous thought, and foster a cooperative, equitable educational atmosphere.

The role may also encompass Head of Department responsibilities, offering strategic leadership, ensuring curriculum excellence, and fostering ongoing enhancements in teaching and learning.

Oversee a range of critical duties encompassing strategic planning, team leadership, and operational execution to drive organizational success; develop and implement policies, processes, and performance metrics to enhance productivity and efficiency; lead cross-functional initiatives to align departmental objectives with broader company goals; analyze market trends and competitive landscapes to inform decision-making and innovation strategies; manage budgets, resources, and stakeholder relationships to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainable growth; mentor and develop team members through coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities; monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed to maintain high standards of quality and compliance.

Devise and implement engaging English lessons that strictly adhere to the rigorous academic standards set by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP).

Enhance students’ competencies in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and literary analysis to foster comprehensive language development and critical thinking.

Encourage the development of analytical reasoning, innovative thought, and a deep understanding of varied literary works and viewpoints.

To develop tailored instructional approaches that address the varied learning needs and abilities of students.

Employ student-centered and inquiry-based instructional strategies to foster engagement and active learning.

Design and administer formative and summative assessments in alignment with International Baccalaureate (IB) criteria to evaluate student progress and learning outcomes effectively.

Deliver prompt, actionable feedback while ensuring precise documentation of student advancement.

Facilitate student readiness for both internal and external evaluations, such as IB examinations.

Foster a secure, welcoming, and stimulating classroom setting that promotes inclusivity and active participation for all students.

Serve as a Homeroom Tutor, providing personalized academic and pastoral support to students, ensuring their holistic development.

Engage actively in co-curricular initiatives, including debate societies, dramatic productions, or literary clubs, to foster skill development and collaborative learning.

Proactively interact with parents via conferences and established communication platforms to foster ongoing dialogue and collaboration.

Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement curriculum plans and support school-wide initiatives.

The ideal candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with a minimum of three years of professional experience in a similar role. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, are required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment is also necessary. Prior experience leading projects or mentoring junior staff is highly desirable.

A recognized university must award a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a focus on English, Literature, or a closely related discipline.

Applicants residing in Kenya must possess registration with the Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC).

Capable of delivering instruction effectively within diverse, multicultural, international school settings, with a solid grasp of student-centered, inquiry-based pedagogical approaches.
