The Digital Scholarship Centre Lead will drive the adoption of digital media services, advocate for emerging media technologies, and manage the creation of multimedia resources for AKU faculty, students, and staff, thereby advancing the university’s core objectives in teaching, learning, and research.

Oversee and execute key operational duties, ensuring all processes align with organizational standards and objectives. Manage a diverse range of tasks, including coordination, planning, and implementation, while maintaining high levels of accuracy and efficiency. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows, address challenges, and achieve departmental goals. Monitor performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed. Serve as a primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing updates, resolving inquiries, and fostering strong professional relationships.

Oversee the comprehensive management of the Digital Scholarship Centre’s operations from start to finish while spearheading initiatives that foster its expansion, innovation, and enduring viability.

Spearhead the archiving and preservation initiatives for Aga Khan University’s scholarly publications and research outputs.

Deliver comprehensive ICT assistance for digital research platforms, library technologies, and information systems—such as RFID solutions and the Library Management System.

Facilitate the incorporation and utilization of innovative media technologies to enhance educational experiences and scholarly pursuits.

Oversee and manage the AKU Library’s electronic databases to guarantee their precision, availability, and timeliness.

Develop and craft high-quality graphic design, branding, and promotional materials specifically for AKU’s publications, events, and marketing initiatives.

We are responsible for updating and maintaining the institutional digital repository, intranet pages, and web portals for AKU libraries across East Africa.

Design and manage Lib Guides, digital learning resources, and online courses to bolster academic programs.

Requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in a similar role. Candidates must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively address complex challenges. Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools is essential. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities are necessary to collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, while an advanced degree is preferred. Familiarity with current industry trends and best practices is mandatory. A master’s degree in Information Systems or a closely related field, or an equivalent qualification in a pertinent discipline, is required.

Accomplished professionals should possess a track record of effectively overseeing a digital repository and/or institutional archive, ideally through Digital Commons.

Experienced in crafting engaging online courses and digital learning materials, with strong skills in graphic design and web development software.

Proficiency in utilizing Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and online discovery/search platforms is essential.

Demonstrates expertise in cutting-edge technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital advancements.

Proven proficiency in scholarly communication and research support services is required.
