Job Summary

The incumbent will lead the Digital Scholarship Centre, driving the adoption of digital media services and advocating for emerging media technologies while managing the creation of multimedia resources for faculty, students, and staff at AKU. Additionally, the role will provide direct support to the university’s core missions of teaching, learning, and research.

Responsibilities

Oversee the complete lifecycle of the Digital Scholarship Centre’s operations and spearhead strategic initiatives that foster growth, innovation, and enduring sustainability.

Spearhead the archiving and preservation initiatives for Aga Khan University’s scholarly publications and research outputs.

Deliver comprehensive ICT support for digital research tools, library technologies, and information systems, encompassing RFID solutions and the Library Management System.

Facilitate the incorporation and practical application of innovative media technologies to enhance educational practices and scholarly investigations.

Oversee the ongoing management and administration of the AKU Library’s electronic databases, guaranteeing their precision, availability, and up-to-date status.

Develop high-quality graphic design, branding, and promotional materials tailored for AKU’s publications, events, and marketing initiatives.

Oversee the upkeep and enhancement of the institutional digital repository, intranet pages, and web portals for AKU libraries across East Africa to ensure optimal functionality and accessibility.

Create and manage Lib Guides, online learning materials, and digital course offerings to enhance and support academic programs.

The position necessitates a minimum of five years of relevant experience in [specific field/industry], along with a bachelor’s degree in [related field] or an equivalent combination of education and professional training. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in [specific software/tools/technical skills] and exhibit strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess prior experience in [specific task/process] and a track record of successfully managing [relevant project/initiative]. A minimum of five years of professional experience within a high-volume academic environment is required.

Accomplished professionals with a track record of overseeing digital repositories and/or institutional archives—ideally through Digital Commons—are sought for this role.

Proven expertise in developing online courses and e-learning materials, alongside strong skills in graphic design and web development tools.

Proven expertise in utilizing Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and digital discovery/search platforms is required.

Expertise in cutting-edge technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital innovation is essential.

Proven proficiency in scholarly communication and research support services is essential.

Skilled in crafting library guides, subject-specific resources, and research support materials to enhance user accessibility and learning outcomes.

Proficient in utilizing both macOS and Windows operating systems with a high degree of expertise.
