The role involves overseeing the ongoing medical care of outpatients, as well as guiding and mentoring junior medical staff. The Medical Officer oversees the initiation and evaluation of outpatient care and maintains communication with lead surgeons regarding any substantial changes in a patient’s condition to obtain recommendations on treatment and management strategies.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will oversee and execute key operational tasks, including but not limited to project management, team coordination, and stakeholder communication. Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as deemed necessary, adhering to the medical officer’s established clinical practice guidelines.
Review pertinent pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic reports, then relay key findings to the primary surgeon to ensure informed decision-making.
Precisely document all patient encounters, including detailed histories, physical examinations, treatment strategies, diagnostic tests, and subsequent interventions, directly within the medical record.
Collaborate in the coordination of patient care to enhance the efficiency of patient movement throughout the facility.
Evaluate both outpatient and inpatient cases in collaboration with the appropriate residents and/or attending surgeons.
Initiate and oversee the diagnostic process and ongoing management of the patient’s health, which involves requesting essential radiology and pathology investigations, administering suitable medications, and facilitating specialist consultations as needed.
Deliver brief, on-the-spot instructional sessions to junior medical personnel to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge in real-time settings.
Facilitate clear and compassionate dialogue with the patient and/or their immediate family regarding their health status.
The Medical Officer must maintain a valid and active license at all times throughout their tenure.
Oversees clinical support operations encompassing Pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, biomedical engineering, and nutritional services.
Overseeing the performance of all clinical officers within the facility constitutes a primary responsibility. This role involves ensuring adherence to established protocols, monitoring service delivery standards, and providing leadership to maintain operational efficiency.
Engage in departmental quality management initiatives aligned with Hospital Quality standards to ensure adherence to established benchmarks.
Assist in various administrative tasks as assigned, ensuring efficient office operations. Provide support to team members by coordinating schedules, managing correspondence, and maintaining organized records. Handle confidential information with discretion and adhere to company policies. Perform additional responsibilities as needed to facilitate smooth workflow and meet organizational objectives.

Qualifications:
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for this role: a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Additionally, candidates should possess at least three years of progressive experience in project management, software development, or a closely related discipline. Proficiency in industry-standard tools and methodologies, such as Agile, Scrum, or Six Sigma, is highly desirable, as is a proven track record of delivering successful projects within budget and on schedule. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Familiarity with data analysis, programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL), and project management software (e.g., Jira, Trello) will be advantageous.
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) degree or a comparable qualification is required.
Licensed by the Medical Council of Kenya as a medical officer.
A background in leadership and management courses or practical experience is highly advantageous.
