The Deputy Manager, Communications will deliver high-level strategic communications guidance and specialized technical support to BRAD International Microfinance’s (BI MF) eight microfinance entities spanning Asia and Africa. In this role, the incumbent will assist in the formulation and execution of communications strategies, curate engaging content and coordinated campaigns, and craft compelling narratives to deepen stakeholder connections, elevate organizational profile, and clearly convey BI MF’s impact to audiences ranging from local partners to international stakeholders.

Oversee and execute primary duties encompassing a range of critical functions, including but not limited to strategic planning, operational oversight, and team leadership. Ensure alignment with organizational objectives by monitoring performance metrics, fostering collaboration across departments, and implementing process improvements. Develop and maintain policies and procedures to enhance efficiency, compliance, and risk management. Analyze data to identify trends, provide actionable insights, and drive informed decision-making. Serve as a liaison between senior management and staff to facilitate clear communication and resolve operational challenges. Manage budgets, allocate resources effectively, and optimize workflows to maximize productivity and sustainability.

Entity support involves assisting in the planning and execution of annual communications plans for BI MF’s eight microfinance entities. This role provides continuous technical support, direct assistance, and strategic direction to enhance program delivery, boost operational efficiency, and foster meaningful engagement with clients, staff, and external stakeholders. The position collaborates with country teams to ensure entity-level communications align with BI MF’s overarching strategies, brand identity, and key messaging.

Support communications for the financial inclusion aspect of BRAD International’s “Accelerating Impact for Young Women (AIM)” program. Create and execute internal and external communication campaigns, multimedia content, and design materials to enhance staff capability in conveying the AIM program’s goals to participants and relevant stakeholders.

You will collaborate with communications teams across entities to develop, refine, and distribute news releases, FAQs, briefing notes, and other media materials, ensuring enhanced visibility and credibility for BI MF entities within their national and regional contexts. In close partnership with country leadership teams, you will proactively identify potential reputational risks and execute strategic communications responses, both in advance and as needed.

We oversee the creation and refinement of compelling content across diverse platforms, such as websites, social media, newsletters, and printed materials. This involves drafting and editing narratives that highlight human interest and impact, video scripts, blog posts, case studies, fact sheets, capacity statements, annual reports, and other knowledge-sharing and advocacy materials. Additionally, we are responsible for maintaining and updating an editorial calendar, while guiding the monthly and annual content production workflows to ensure prompt delivery, high standards, and strategic alignment with program objectives.

Design, develop, and execute cohesive communication campaigns driven by data, research, and programmatic insights, enhanced by compelling and innovative content. Provide assistance in the planning and execution of the BI MF Leadership Retreat, as well as learning workshops and webinars, to elevate BI MF’s impact and knowledge-sharing. Maintain uniformity in messaging, branding, and positioning across all global initiatives and events, including Financial Inclusion Week, International Women’s Day, and World Youth Day.

Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy aimed at elevating BI MF’s online presence, fostering deeper audience engagement, and strengthening thought leadership across multiple digital channels. Continuously track emerging social media trends, performance metrics, and audience behavior, adjusting tactics and content to maximize reach and impact. Collaborate closely with communications focal points to curate and sustain cohesive content calendars, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines. Offer strategic recommendations on maintaining consistent branding, refining tone of voice, and optimizing content formats for optimal performance.

Collaborate with both internal and external design teams to develop visually compelling materials strictly in line with BRAD’s established branding and visual identity standards. Oversee the creation and execution of graphics, infographics, visual narratives, and other creative deliverables tailored for digital and print platforms. Maintain a high level of proficiency in essential design applications, including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Canva.

Provide innovative and strategic assistance in crafting social and behavior change communication materials, ensuring they are evidence-based and contextually relevant. Collaborate closely with internal and external design teams, product development, impact assessment, and social performance units, as well as other key functional leaders at BI MF. Foster participatory, gender-responsive approaches that align with programmatic insights and established evidence.

Support executive and grant communications by assisting in the formulation of organizational messaging and strategic positioning. Prepare and maintain current talking points and speeches for senior leadership. Additionally, draft reports for significant grants, including the AIM program, and provide support for proposal development as needed.

You will facilitate learning and collaboration by partnering with BRAD International and BRAD’s global communications teams to maintain coherent and consistent messaging, brand representation, social media calendars, event calendars, and major campaign initiatives. Additionally, you will serve as a primary liaison between country communications teams and central communications. Your role will involve documenting lessons learned, best practices, and success stories from BRAD International’s microfinance entities and disseminating these insights throughout the organization.

Supplier and partner engagement: Effectively manage partnerships with creative agencies, photographers, filmmakers, graphics designers, event management firms to procure services for communication campaigns and events. Oversee the procurement of communication-related services and products in line with BRAC’s procurement and safeguarding policies.

Professional Rewriting:

Offer ongoing coaching, mentoring, and hands-on support to communications teams and designated focal points across Asia and Africa. Develop and lead training sessions and workshops focused on strategic communications, creative and technical writing, content creation, storytelling, foundational design principles, and digital communications. Cultivate a dynamic learning environment within the broader communications community of practice, promoting continuous improvement and innovation while encouraging exploration of emerging tools, platforms, and methodologies.

Safeguarding Responsibilities include ensuring the protection of individuals from harm, maintaining compliance with relevant safeguarding policies, and implementing best practices to create a secure environment. This role involves identifying potential risks, responding to concerns promptly, and reporting any incidents in accordance with established protocols. Responsibilities also encompass fostering a culture of awareness, conducting regular training sessions, and collaborating with stakeholders to uphold safety standards.

Safeguard all team members against any potential harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, or exploitation to ensure their well-being and protection.

Drive safeguarding awareness initiatives among team members while maintaining strict adherence to safeguarding standards across all activities.

Ensure strict compliance with safeguarding reporting protocols for any incident that requires notification, and promote adherence to these procedures among colleagues.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required. A minimum of five years of professional software development experience, including proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++, is necessary. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments are essential. Familiarity with software development methodologies, version control systems, and Agile/Scrum practices is expected. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities are also required.

Minimum three (03) years of experience in development communications in an INGO, Foundation or another related field and space.

Minimum five years of experience in communications, journalism, or a related professional discipline is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Skills and Abilities: A minimum of five years of relevant work experience is mandatory, preferably in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and advanced Excel skills are essential. Strong interpersonal and communication abilities are required to effectively collaborate with teams and stakeholders. Exceptional problem-solving skills and the capacity to work under pressure are equally important. Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools is a strong advantage. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Proficient in development communications, Social and Behavior Change Communications, modern communication strategies and platforms, as well as social media analytics, with a strong foundation in microfinance, financial inclusion, global development challenges, and the non-profit sector.

Seeking a candidate with expertise in strategic communication, project management, event coordination, and social media content creation. Proficiency in writing, blogging, and visual storytelling is essential, along with strong abilities in public speaking and presentation development. The ideal applicant will also possess advanced skills in design software, including InDesign, Canva, and the Adobe Creative Suite, as well as experience in photography and video editing. Familiarity with Google Workspace is required.
