The primary mission of UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division is to empower policymakers in government and collaborate with industry and financial institutions, leveraging robust scientific evidence to design and implement policies, strategies, and practices—along with innovative technologies—that foster sustainable consumption and production patterns, including circular economy models. Additionally, it aims to optimize the use of natural resources, guarantee the safe management of chemicals, and enhance synergy between industrial development and environmental policies.

The Division advances the formulation and implementation of policies, technologies, economic tools, investment strategies, business innovations, and other initiatives aimed at tackling pressing environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity decline, land degradation, and pollution—all while fostering economic and social progress.

This role is situated at the Nairobi duty station within the Industry and Economy Division of UNEP, specifically under the Materials and Systems Innovation Unit.

The Materials and Systems Innovation Unit drives the development and execution of UNEP’s work program by integrating data, scientific research, and knowledge networks focused on sustainable materials’ management, circular economy principles, and life cycle assessment. Its mission is to empower governments and collaborate with industry and financial stakeholders to establish effective policies and operational practices in these domains.

The successful candidate will deliver expert administrative, financial, and legal assistance to facilitate the compliant, efficient, and punctual execution of project initiatives.

This position ensures institutional integrity by meticulously aligning contracts, budgets, travel logistics, and documentation with UN rules and regulations while enhancing operational support for project partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications/special skills
