What you’ll do:

As the University Guidance Counselor, you will be instrumental in fostering students’ academic and professional trajectories by offering comprehensive support throughout the university application process and equipping them with the tools necessary for sustained success. Your core duties will encompass assisting students with application submissions, providing insightful advice on university selection, and facilitating workshops to enhance their readiness for higher education.

Guide students seamlessly through each phase of the university application journey, from identifying suitable institutions to successfully securing scholarships, leveraging in-depth knowledge of international pathways and British Curriculum prerequisites.

Collaborate effectively with educators, parents, school administrators, and academic departments to track student development and provide well-informed recommendations.

Enhancing Extracurricular Opportunities: Design and implement programs aimed at broadening students’ academic engagement while curating career-focused events, workshops, and mentorship sessions to provide strategic guidance.

Forging Strategic University Partnerships: Cultivate and sustain collaborations with academic institutions, with a particular focus on universities in Africa and overseas, while overseeing the administration of university application systems and digital resources.

Develop and nurture an active alumni network to provide ongoing assistance to both current students and graduates as they navigate their academic pursuits and career advancement.

The preferred applicant must meet the following qualifications and responsibilities to excel in this role. They should possess a minimum of three years of relevant experience in the field, along with a proven track record of achieving measurable results. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential, as the position requires frequent collaboration with cross-functional teams. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate proficiency in industry-standard tools and software, along with the ability to adapt to evolving business needs and priorities. Responsibilities include leading project initiatives, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

A solid background in University Guidance, Teaching, or the broader Education sector is required to fully grasp students’ academic needs and deliver meaningful support throughout the university application journey.

A strong understanding of the British Curriculum is essential to provide students with effective support in the DISC environment and assist them in navigating relevant university pathways.

Effective communication and presentation abilities are essential for composing recommendation letters, advising students and parents, fostering collaborations with teachers and universities, and gaining the trust of the school community.

A strong command of data management principles and digital tools is essential for overseeing student application data, monitoring progress, generating reports, and leveraging digital platforms with efficiency.

Proficiency in African and international universities allows for a diverse array of academic options, ensuring students can identify and secure the most suitable educational opportunities.

Proficient creative and event management abilities are essential for coordinating career fairs, workshops, and various student enrichment initiatives designed to expand students’ horizons.

A strong aptitude for problem-solving is essential for establishing a new university guidance function, tackling obstacles, juggling a demanding workload, and assisting families with limited familiarity with the university application process.
