About Judicial Service Commission

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is a part-time constitutional body constituted under Article 171 of the Constitution, with its membership comprising:

– The Chief Justice, who serves as Chairperson;
– One judge from the Supreme Court;
– One judge from the Court of Appeal;
– One judge from the High Court;
– One magistrate;
– The Attorney General;
– Two advocates (one woman and one man);
– One nominee from the Public Service Commission;
– One woman and one man, appointed by the President with the approval of the National Assembly, to represent the public (excluding legal professionals).

Our Mandate
The Judicial Service Commission is an independent constitutional body established under Article 171 of the Constitution. Its mandate, as outlined in Article 172 of the Constitution, is to uphold and advance the independence and accountability of the Judiciary while ensuring the efficient, effective, and transparent administration of justice.

Our Functions
– Propose qualified candidates to the President for judicial appointments.
– Review and recommend adjustments to the service conditions of judges (excluding remuneration), judicial officers, and judiciary staff.
– Receive, investigate, and address complaints against registrars, magistrates, other judicial officers, and judiciary staff, including disciplinary measures or removal from office.
– Develop and execute ongoing education and training initiatives for judges and judicial officers.
– Provide expert advice to the national government on measures to enhance the efficiency of the justice system.
