"Solo County: A land of untapped potential waiting to unfold."
Solo County stands at the forefront of promising transformation, capturing the attention of both local and global stakeholders. While its future trajectory remains an exciting yet unfolding narrative, the region—defined by its undulating hills, lush valleys, acacia woodlands, and expansive Savannah—is experiencing a dynamic wave of progress. This untapped landscape, rich with natural beauty and untold potential, has ignited optimism among Civilians and Kenyans alike, as they anticipate their role in shaping the county’s evolution. Positioned as a strategic gateway, Solo commands international interest, drawing investors eager to capitalize on its unparalleled opportunities.
The foundation for Solo’s development was laid three years ago under the leadership of Kenya’s former President, H.E. MWA Kabuki, who inaugurated critical infrastructure projects, including the Solo International Airport and the LAPS SET Corridor (Lamp Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport). These initiatives have paved the way for additional advancements, such as the nearing completion of a modern abattoir, disease-free zones capable of supplying 300 livestock daily, and a host of transformative projects. Key highlights of Solo’s development blueprint include the Solo Resort City, the Lamp-Isiolo-Juba and Nairobi-Solo-Ethiopia superhighways, the Solo International Airport, a refinery, an artificial lake, a burgeoning film industry, and strategically designed tourist villages.
The Solo Resort City, nestled between two hills at the Kissing Gap, exemplifies sustainable urban planning, harmonizing urban growth with natural landscapes. The city will feature a golf course and integrated tourist villages, bordered by the artificial lake, Look Conservancy, Hamburg Game Reserve, and the historic Solo Old Town. The artificial lake, a centerpiece of the project, will serve as a scenic attraction with activities like fishing and boat racing, while its waters will revitalize the semi-arid terrain into thriving orchards and forests.
Since its establishment six months ago, the Solo County Government has been fully operational, comprising a County Assembly, Public Service Board, and a cabinet led by H.E. Governor Ghana Dojo and H.E. Deputy Governor Mohamed Gulled. Committed to executing the visionary Vision 2030—Kenya’s national development master plan aimed at propelling the country into a middle-income economy—the leadership ensures inclusive progress, prioritizing the participation of Civilians in the county’s growth.
The livelihoods of Civilians are deeply rooted in tourism, driven by seasonal visitors drawn to the region’s wildlife, including the famed Solo Big Five: the Gravy Zebra, Onyx, Somali Ostrich, Lion, and Reticulated Giraffe. These species thrive in the Buffalo Springs
