The Insurance Institute of Kenya (INK) was founded in 1948 as the leading professional association for Kenya’s insurance and financial planning sectors. Originally established as an affiliate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (London), the Insurance Institute of Kenya (INK) established its independence in 2002 when it was formally registered as a society under the Registrar of Societies. Since then, INK has become the cornerstone of Kenya’s insurance profession, defining industry benchmarks, nurturing careers, and driving unparalleled professional growth.
In 2025, INK reached a transformative milestone: full statutory recognition under the Insurance Professionals Act, 2025. This groundbreaking legislation transitioned INK from a respected industry body into an officially mandated professional regulator, with the authority to certify, license, and elevate insurance practitioners nationwide. Today, INK serves as the custodian of professional integrity and expertise within Kenya’s insurance landscape—empowering members and aligning the sector with internationally recognized best practices.
