The position involves delivering comprehensive financial reporting and analysis to support strategic decision-making. The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of expert technical assistance for an international initiative aimed at strengthening digital competencies and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities. In this critical position, the incumbent will advocate for greater workplace and labor market inclusivity across seven nations in East, West, and Southern Africa.

The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will oversee the design and execution of the program, ensuring strict alignment with Sightsavers’ thematic and program strategies. In this pivotal role, they will spearhead the development of innovative, inclusive methodologies that foster systemic transformation and yield sustainable, meaningful outcomes.

This is a full-time, on-site position requiring the successful candidate to work from the Sight savers office in one of the following cities—Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi—five days each week.

Oversee a range of critical operational tasks, ensuring adherence to established procedures while maintaining alignment with organizational objectives. Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality standards across all assigned functions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improvement, foster innovation, and drive continuous growth. Monitor performance metrics, conduct regular evaluations, and provide actionable feedback to optimize workflows and achieve targeted outcomes. Serve as a liaison between departments, facilitating seamless communication and coordination to resolve challenges and support seamless operations. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety protocols, and internal policies to mitigate risks and uphold accountability.

Offer strategic technical guidance to a cross-border initiative aimed at enhancing digital competencies and employment opportunities for young individuals with disabilities, simultaneously fostering greater disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.

Work collaboratively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to deliver program objectives effectively and cohesively.

Spearhead innovative strategic initiatives designed to elevate the quality, relevance, and sustainability of Sight savers’ operations, fostering transformative progress and measurable impact.

Facilitate collaborative initiatives across multiple organizational functions, including research, innovation, policy formulation, advocacy, and communications, by engaging with both internal departments and external partners.

As a senior representative of Sight savers, you will serve as a distinguished subject-matter expert in digital inclusion and the digital economy, engaging with national, regional, and international networks, conferences, and sector-specific platforms.

The position requires up to 12 weeks of travel annually.

We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in relevant technical or professional skills, complemented by several years of hands-on experience in the field. The ideal applicant will demonstrate proficiency in key tools, methodologies, and industry best practices, ensuring they can deliver high-quality results efficiently. Experience with specific systems, software, or frameworks—whether in a collaborative team environment or through independent problem-solving—will be highly valued. Additionally, familiarity with project management principles or cross-functional coordination may be required, depending on the role’s demands.

The GTL will offer profound knowledge of Africa’s digital and IT employment and labor market landscapes, encompassing skills’ development, training initiatives, and pathways to employment. They will demonstrate a fervent dedication to inclusive growth and a steadfast resolve to promote the rights of individuals with disabilities through forward-thinking, high-impact programming.

As a strategic collaborator, the successful candidate will engage with cross-functional teams and operate across multiple global regions. The position requires up to 12 weeks of international travel annually to advance program execution and foster stakeholder relationships.

The ideal candidate must meet several key qualifications for this role. Proficiency in relevant software applications is essential, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Prior experience in a similar position is highly desirable, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required to convey information effectively. Additionally, the applicant should possess a keen attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy in all tasks.

Essential:

A master’s degree or higher—ideally a PhD—in digital economy, digital policy, digital or economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a closely related field is required, or equivalent practical experience may be considered.

Requires a solid grasp of contemporary discussions and challenges in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, along with their impact on skills’ development, employment opportunities, fair work standards, and labor market dynamics within African and Global South settings.

Seasoned in designing and executing initiatives focused on digital proficiency, workforce training, and career transition programs, with a particular emphasis on regions in the Global South.

Professional experience in non-governmental or non-profit organizations, particularly in the administration of programs financed by donors.

Demonstrates a track record of effectively collaborating with diverse labor market stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on engaging the private sector to enhance employment prospects and promote decent work.

A solid grasp of the evolving landscape of AI and digital technologies, along with their broader implications for employment and labor markets in African and Global South contexts, is essential.

Fluent proficiency in both spoken and written English is essential, enabling the creation of comprehensive reports and the delivery of polished presentations.

Sharp analytical and strategic reasoning abilities, coupled with the capacity to devise plans from both programmatic and organizational viewpoints.

Proven expertise in leadership, networking, and stakeholder engagement, coupled with strong diplomatic and tactful communication skills.

Experience working on TVET systems.

With a proven track record in collaborating with key tripartite labor market stakeholders—particularly within the private sector and, more specifically, in digital industries—to drive advancements in employment and enhance work quality standards.

Demonstrated skill in fostering cross-functional collaboration and thriving in multicultural team environments.

Developing and refining technical guidance and programming tools represents a core competency, requiring expertise in creating and modifying specialized resources to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in technical workflows.

Demonstrating an unwavering dedication to advancing disability inclusion, equity, and justice within digital and employment environments.

Able to travel internationally for up to 12 weeks annually, with a strong commitment to fulfilling such travel requirements.

Desirable:

Advocacy experience is required, with a particular emphasis on promoting inclusion for individuals with disabilities.

Fluency in written and verbal French is required.
