As an entry-to-mid-level research professional within DAKOTA’s Customer Intelligence (CI) team, this role involves conducting end-to-end UX and product research, from study design to insight delivery. Collaborating closely with senior researchers and cross-functional teams, you will engage in meaningful research initiatives centered on tangible products and real customers. The work directly impacts individuals whose financial well-being relies on seamless, functional experiences.
This hybrid position requires you to work from our offices in Kenya while collaborating with a cross-functional team of colleagues from our various markets and locations spanning the UK, Europe, and Africa. You will report directly to the Research Operations Lead.
Why this Role is Different
This position distinguishes itself by avoiding the typical support-driven trajectory of most research associate roles. Instead, you will contribute to groundbreaking products designed for first-time smartphone users, first-time borrowers, and first-time digital finance customers across five distinct markets. The research challenges are inherently intricate, the outcomes carry real-world significance, and the team upholds a commitment to meticulous craftsmanship.
What You’ll be doing
Convening moderated usability tests, semi-structured interviews, and surveys, you will oversee the full spectrum of fieldwork logistics for both remote and in-person sessions, from initial planning through execution, guaranteeing that each session is meticulously prepared to yield high-quality data from the outset.
Crafting qualitative data into structured insights involves coding and synthesizing information through established frameworks, resulting in affinity maps, insight lists, and organized reports that convert findings into concise, actionable deliverables for your direct team and key stakeholders.
Contributing to established team research practices, promptly addressing unclear briefs by posing thoughtful questions, and leveraging AI-powered tools—such as Claude and Notion AI—while exercising discernment to determine when human oversight is necessary for the output.
What You’ll bring
Demonstrable expertise in executing UX research methodologies—such as moderated usability testing, semi-structured interviews, and survey design—along with a clear understanding of selecting the appropriate methods based on context and objectives.
Demonstrates a strong track record in analyzing qualitative data, including the systematic coding of responses, the detection of meaningful patterns, and the creation of synthesis artifacts such as affinity maps and insight lists through a disciplined and organized methodology.
A strong understanding of DAKOTA’s markets or the broader landscape of first-time digital financial services users is essential, along with a keen interest in addressing the usability challenges inherent to this domain.
