The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will oversee the delivery of expert technical support for a multi-country initiative dedicated to improving digital skills and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities. Additionally, this critical position will advocate for enhanced disability inclusion within workplaces and labor markets across seven nations in East, West, and Southern Africa.

The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will oversee the design and execution of the program in accordance with Sight savers’ thematic and strategic frameworks, while spearheading the development of forward-thinking, inclusive methodologies to foster systemic transformation and long-term, sustainable outcomes.

This role requires full-time, in-person attendance at the Sight savers office, with the successful candidate expected to work from one of the organization’s locations—specifically Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi—five days each week.

Develop and implement strategies to enhance organizational effectiveness, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives. Oversee daily operations to maintain productivity and efficiency, while fostering a collaborative work environment that encourages innovation and problem-solving. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive continuous growth. Monitor key performance indicators to assess progress toward goals, providing data-driven insights to senior leadership for informed decision-making. Serve as a primary point of contact for departmental stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and coordination of initiatives. Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and quality standards to mitigate risks and uphold operational integrity.

Lead strategic technical guidance for a multi-country initiative aimed at enhancing digital skills and employment opportunities for young people with disabilities, while simultaneously promoting disability inclusion across workplaces and labor markets in East, West, and Southern Africa.

Work collaboratively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to align efforts and maximize the effectiveness of program outcomes.

Spearhead pioneering strategic projects to enhance the efficacy, pertinence, and sustainability of Sight savers’ initiatives, fostering continuous innovation and progress.

Support collaborative initiatives spanning research, innovation, policy, advocacy, and communications across the organization, engaging with both internal teams and external stakeholders to foster strategic partnerships.

As a senior-level representative, you will embody Sight savers’ expertise in digital inclusion and the digital economy, engaging with national, regional, and international networks, conferences, and sector platforms to advance our mission.

The position requires up to 12 weeks of travel annually.

We are seeking candidates with a proven track record of relevant skills and hands-on experience in the field. The ideal applicant will possess a minimum of three years of professional experience, along with specialized expertise in key areas pertinent to the role. Familiarity with industry-standard tools, methodologies, and best practices is essential, as is the ability to apply this knowledge effectively to drive results. Additionally, strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning are highly valued. A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent professional qualifications is preferred, though relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

The incumbent will possess deep expertise in the employment and labor market dynamics of Africa’s digital and IT sectors, with a focus on skills’ development, training, and employment transitions. Demonstrating a strong commitment to inclusive development, they will champion the advancement of rights for people with disabilities through forward-thinking, results-driven initiatives.

This position requires a strategic collaborator with a proven ability to engage effectively across varied teams and locations. The role entails up to 12 weeks of international travel annually to advance program execution and foster stakeholder relationships.

The ideal candidate must meet specific qualifications, possess relevant experience, and demonstrate a strong ability to perform the required duties effectively. Applicants should have a proven track record in the field, along with exceptional problem-solving skills and a commitment to maintaining high professional standards. Additionally, the role demands proficiency in key technical areas, effective communication abilities, and a capacity to work collaboratively within a team environment. Essential:

A master’s degree or higher in digital economy, digital policy, economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience—is required; a PhD is strongly preferred.

Demonstrable understanding of current debates and issues in AI and digital technologies, and the implications for skills, employment, decent work and labour markets in African and Global South contexts.

Experience of leading and developing programmes on digital skills, training and transition to employment, especially in the global South

Candidates should possess experience in non-governmental or non-profit organizations, specifically with a focus on overseeing programs funded by donors.

Demonstrated success in collaborating with diverse labor market stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on private sector engagement, to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work standards.

Proven expertise in the latest advancements in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, coupled with a deep awareness of their transformative impact on employment and labor markets within African and Global South settings.

Proficient in spoken and written English, with strong capabilities in report writing and presentation delivery.

Demonstrated proficiency in analytical and strategic thinking, with the capability to develop plans from both programmatic and organizational viewpoints.

Proven expertise in leadership, networking, and stakeholder engagement, coupled with exceptional diplomacy and tact.

Experience working on TVET systems.

Proven track record in collaborating with key labor market stakeholders across the tripartite structure—with a particular emphasis on private sector engagement, especially within digital industries—to drive improvements in employment rates and the promotion of decent work standards.

Demonstrated proficiency in cross-functional collaboration and seamless integration within varied team environments.

Skilled in creating and modifying technical guidance materials and programming tools.

Demonstrates a steadfast dedication to fostering disability inclusion, equity, and justice within digital environments and employment practices.

Capable of frequent international travel, totaling up to 12 weeks annually, with a willingness to accommodate such commitments.

Desirable:

Proficiency in advocating for underrepresented communities, with a strong emphasis on disability inclusion, is required.

Fluent command of the French language is essential.
