Role Summary

The English Teacher will design and deliver dynamic, inquiry-driven lessons that cultivate students’ proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and critical evaluation. This position requires the design and execution of IB-compliant instructional plans, the evaluation of student progress through criterion-referenced assessments, and the cultivation of an enduring enthusiasm for language and literature. Additionally, the teacher will nurture students’ overall growth, encourage autonomous reasoning, and play an active role in fostering a supportive, inclusive educational community.

The role may also encompass Head of Department responsibilities, offering leadership, overseeing curriculum development, and fostering ongoing enhancements in teaching and learning practices.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement engaging English lessons that meet the rigorous standards set by the International Baccalaureate (MYP & DP) curriculum.

Enhance students’ proficiencies in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and literary analysis through targeted instruction and engaging methodologies.

Encourage the development of analytical reasoning, innovative thought processes, and a deep understanding and respect for varied literary works and viewpoints.

Craft innovative instructional strategies tailored to accommodate a wide range of student skill levels and learning styles.

Employ interactive and student-focused instructional strategies, fostering an environment where inquiry drives learning outcomes.

Design and execute formative and summative assessments aligned with International Baccalaureate (IB) criteria to evaluate student progress and learning outcomes effectively.

Deliver prompt, actionable feedback while meticulously documenting student progress to ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness.

Facilitate students’ readiness for both internal and external evaluations, such as IB assessments.

Design an educational setting that fosters safety, inclusivity, and engagement for all students.

Serve as a Homeroom Tutor, providing comprehensive support to address both the academic and pastoral requirements of students.

Engage in enriching co-curricular initiatives, including debate teams, drama societies, or writing clubs, to foster holistic development and collaborative learning.

Facilitate ongoing, meaningful interactions with parents by organizing and participating in conferences, along with utilizing various communication channels to ensure consistent engagement.

Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement curriculum plans and school-wide initiatives.

The requirements

Qualifications and Experience

A recognized university must grant a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, with a specialization in English, Literature, or an allied discipline.

Candidates based in Kenya must possess valid registration with the Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC).

A proven track record in delivering instruction within diverse, multicultural, and international educational settings, coupled with expertise in student-centered, inquiry-driven teaching methodologies.

Seeking candidates with two to three years of instructional experience in the IB Middle Years Program and/or IB Diploma, or equivalent academic frameworks, ideally within an international education environment.
