Job Purpose
The Director-General will serve as the Authority’s chief executive officer, reporting to the Board and overseeing the daily operations and administrative functions of the organization.
Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties and responsibilities, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and operational standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive project milestones, maintain compliance with regulatory and procedural frameworks, and uphold the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Perform regular evaluations of workflows to identify opportunities for process optimization while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Serve as a key liaison between departments, facilitating seamless communication and coordination to achieve collective goals. Additionally, ensure adherence to safety protocols and ethical guidelines, while providing mentorship and professional development support to team members as needed.
The Authority fulfills its statutory obligations in accordance with the provisions outlined in the VET Act CAP 210A.
As the intermediary between the Board and executive leadership, the role ensures ongoing dialogue by delivering consistent updates to the Board regarding critical technical, financial, strategic, administrative, and other pertinent matters related to the Authority.
To formulate and submit strategic plans, operational work plans, and annual operating budgets to the Board for approval.
Serves as an ex officio member and secretary to the Board, responsible for implementing and disseminating the Board’s strategies, decisions, and policies.
Develop and execute robust financial management policies to ensure optimal fiscal operations and compliance.
Prepare the annual budget and implement robust internal controls to ensure financial integrity and compliance.
Develop and implement robust internal control systems and procedures to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and maintain operational integrity.
Cultivate a corporate culture that prioritizes the adoption of ethical principles and effective corporate governance practices.
Serve as the designated Spokesperson for the Authority, representing its official communications and public engagements.
Ensure a supportive workplace that fosters the recruitment, engagement, and motivation of high-performing and talented individuals.
Uphold adherence to the Constitution, applicable policies, statutory laws, regulatory mandates, and established procedures to ensure organizational integrity and legal conformity.
Performs all duties as delegated by the Board, ensuring compliance with the Constitution and applicable legal requirements at all times.
Applicants must meet several key criteria to be considered for the position. A relevant bachelor’s degree is mandatory, along with a minimum of three years of professional experience in the specified field. Strong proficiency in written and verbal communication is essential, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Familiarity with industry-standard software and tools is required, and candidates should demonstrate problem-solving skills and adaptability to evolving challenges. Additional certifications or specialized training may be advantageous.
Held a Director-level role for at least three (3) years, or an equivalent position within the Public or Private Sector.
A Bachelor’s degree in Education with a specialization in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (VET) is required.

A recognized institution must award a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Engineering (including Computer, Electrical, Telecommunications, Mechanical, Automotive, Electronics, Construction Plant, Civil, Agricultural, Industrial Technology, Production Technology, Instrumentation and Control), Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture, Livestock Production, Animal Health, Applied and Health Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Computer Science, Information Communication Technology, Library and Information Science, Commerce, Communication, Tourism, Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Food Technology, Home Economics, Business Administration, Business Management, Sociology, Economics, Secretarial Studies, Supply Chain Management, Psychological Counseling, or Guidance and Counseling. In addition, candidates should possess either a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education or a Diploma in Technical Education, both obtained from an accredited institution.
A master’s degree in any of the following fields is required: Education; Engineering (including Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, Electronics, Telecommunication, Computer Science, Civil, Construction Plant, Agricultural, Industrial Technology, Production Technology, Instrumentation, and Control); Information Systems; Information Technology; Library and Information Science; Commerce; Management; Disaster Management; Agriculture; Livestock Production; Animal Health; Applied and Health Sciences; Agricultural Economics; Project Management; Entrepreneurship; Communication; Human Resource Management; Food Technology; Sociology; Economics; Business Administration; Business Management; Tourism; or Supply Chain Management. Candidates with equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution will also be considered.
With a minimum of fifteen years of professional experience in public or private institutions, including no less than five years in a senior management capacity, you will bring proven expertise to this role.
Possesses extensive knowledge and experience in Technical and Vocational Education matters.
A doctorate degree in a related field would be considered favorably.
A minimum of four (4) weeks in a leadership development program from an accredited institution is advantageous.
Membership in an appropriate professional organization, when applicable, is required.
Possess Kenyan citizenship as a prerequisite for this position.
Fulfill the obligations set forth in Chapter Six of the Constitution.
