This role is an entry-to-mid-level research position within DAKOTA’s Customer Intelligence (CI) team. Serving as a CI Research Associate, you will contribute to comprehensive UX and product research initiatives, spanning from initial study design to the final delivery of insights, while collaborating closely with senior researchers and cross-functional partners. Your work will involve conducting practical research on authentic products, directly impacting real customers whose financial well-being relies on seamless, functional experiences.
This hybrid position requires on-site work at our Kenya office, collaborating closely with a multicultural team of professionals spanning our offices in the UK, Europe, and Africa. Under the direction of the Research Operations Lead, you will fulfill this role.
Why this Role is Different
Here, you won’t remain confined to a purely supportive role; instead, you’ll engage directly with groundbreaking products designed for first-time smartphone users, first-time borrowers, and first-time digital finance customers across five distinct markets. The research challenges are multifaceted, the impact is immediate and significant, and the team upholds an unwavering commitment to excellence in execution.
What You’ll be doing
Convene and facilitate moderated usability tests, semi-structured interviews, and surveys while overseeing the complete coordination of fieldwork logistics for both remote and in-person sessions. From initial planning through execution, ensure that all sessions are meticulously prepared to yield high-quality, actionable data from the outset.
You will code and synthesize qualitative data using established frameworks, creating affinity maps, insight lists, and structured reports that convert findings into clear, actionable deliverables for your team and stakeholders.
Contributing to team research methodologies, proactively identifying ambiguities in briefs, and leveraging AI-assisted tools—such as Claude and Notion AI—while exercising discernment to determine when human oversight is necessary.
What You’ll bring
Proven expertise in executing UX research activities—such as guided usability assessments, semi-structured interviews, and carefully designed surveys—along with the ability to strategically select the most appropriate methods based on specific research objectives.
Demonstrates proficiency in handling qualitative data by systematically organizing responses, detecting recurring themes, and crafting structured synthesis deliverables—such as affinity diagrams and insight summaries—through a disciplined, analytical methodology.
A strong understanding of DAKOTA’s markets or the broader landscape of first-time digital financial services users, coupled with a keen interest in addressing the usability challenges inherent in that space.
