The Opportunity
Plan International seeks a seasoned and driven Deployable Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Gender in Emergencies Specialist to strengthen our global Core Surge Team.
You will be required to respond quickly to global humanitarian crises—frequently within 72 hours—delivering technical expertise to prioritize gender equality, inclusion, and the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV) in emergency response efforts.
You will be positioned at the core of crisis response efforts, collaborating with country teams to implement high-quality, gender-transformative initiatives that effectively address the needs of girls, young people, and vulnerable communities.
What You’ll Be Doing
Providing strategic technical leadership and comprehensive program support, the successful candidate will guide technical teams through project execution, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and industry best practices. With a focus on driving innovation and operational excellence, they will oversee program planning, risk management, and stakeholder engagement, while fostering collaboration across departments to deliver high-impact solutions. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential, alongside extensive experience in technical project management and leadership. Lead and enhance gender-based violence (GBV) initiatives, with a primary focus on supporting child and adolescent survivors through targeted interventions and strategic program development.
Promote the integration of gender considerations throughout all humanitarian initiatives.
Deliver specialized counsel in accordance with internationally recognized benchmarks, including the IAS framework, GBV Minimum Standards, Sphere standards, and SEA protocols.
Conduct thorough analysis and execute emergency response protocols to address critical situations promptly and effectively.
Perform Rapid Gender Analysis (RGA) assessments in urgent humanitarian crises to identify and address the distinct needs, vulnerabilities, and capacities of affected populations.
Collaborate on comprehensive multi-sectoral needs assessments to identify critical gaps and priorities across diverse domains.
Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership to ensure programming aligns with gender-responsive principles and best practices.

Serves as Plan International’s representative in GBV and Gender clusters as well as working groups.

Professionals should possess substantial expertise in gender-based violence (GBV) program implementation, with a particular emphasis on initiatives targeting children within humanitarian settings.
Proficiency in conducting gender analysis and implementing strategies to mitigate inequality during crisis situations is essential.
Accomplished professionals with a background in collaborating with United Nations agencies, international non-governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, or inter-agency frameworks are encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated expertise in facilitating cluster coordination and fostering inter-agency collaboration is essential.
Demonstrated expertise in developing and enhancing organizational capabilities through structured mentoring and training initiatives.
Proficient in analytical reasoning, clear verbal articulation, and proficient written communication are essential for success in this role.
Demonstrated capacity to operate autonomously within challenging and fast-paced settings while maintaining composure and productivity.
Fluent English is required, with strong working proficiency in French; additional fluency in Spanish or Arabic is considered an asset.
