The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of expert technical assistance for an international program designed to strengthen digital competencies and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities. In addition, this key position will advocate for enhanced disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets across seven countries spanning East, West, and Southern Africa.

The General Technical Lead (GTL) will oversee the design and execution of the program to ensure alignment with Sight savers’ thematic and program strategies, while spearheading the development of pioneering, inclusive methodologies that foster systemic transformation and deliver sustainable outcomes.

This position requires full-time, on-site attendance at the Sight savers office in Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi, with the employee expected to work five days each week.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to organizational goals. This includes managing project timelines, coordinating cross-functional teams, and maintaining meticulous records of progress and outcomes. Additionally, the role requires analyzing data to identify trends, implementing process improvements, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and internal policies. Strong communication skills are essential for reporting findings to stakeholders and providing clear, actionable recommendations. Proficiency in relevant software and tools is necessary to support data-driven decision-making and streamline workflows. Collaboration with other departments will be required to align efforts with broader strategic objectives.

Deliver high-level technical guidance to spearhead a cross-regional initiative aimed at enhancing digital competencies and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities, while simultaneously fostering greater disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.

Work collaboratively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to foster cohesive, high-impact delivery of program objectives.

Spearhead innovative strategic initiatives aimed at elevating the quality, relevance, and sustainability of Sight savers’ initiatives, serving as a driving force for progress and transformation.

Collaborate on interdepartmental initiatives encompassing research, innovation, policy development, advocacy, and communications, engaging collaboratively with internal colleagues and external partners.

As a senior advisor, you will serve as Sight savers’ authoritative voice on digital inclusion and the digital economy, engaging with national, regional, and international stakeholders through participation in networks, conferences, and sector-specific platforms.

The position requires up to 12 weeks of travel annually.

As a strategic collaborator, you will work across diverse teams and geographies, fostering cross-functional partnerships. This role requires international travel of up to 12 weeks annually to facilitate program delivery and stakeholder engagement.

The ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications and possess the necessary skills to excel in this role. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in a similar position is required, along with a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential, as is the capacity to work effectively under pressure. Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools is also mandatory, and excellent communication skills are needed to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Additionally, the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment is crucial.

Essential:

A master’s degree or higher is required, with a PhD preferred, in fields such as digital economy, digital policy, digital or economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a closely aligned discipline. Alternatively, equivalent professional experience in these areas may be considered.

You should exhibit a clear grasp of contemporary discussions and challenges in AI and digital technologies, along with their impacts on skills’ development, employment, fair work, and labor markets across African and Global South settings.

Proficiency in designing, implementing, and scaling digital skills initiatives, vocational training programs, and employment transition frameworks is required, with a particular focus on regions in the Global South.

Individuals should possess a proven track record of engagement in non-governmental or non-profit environments, with a specific emphasis on oversight of programs financed by external donors.

Demonstrated success in collaborating with diverse labor market stakeholders—particularly within the private sector—to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work standards.

Proficiency in contemporary advancements in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, along with a deep comprehension of their impact on employment patterns and labor markets within African and Global South settings.

Fluent proficiency in both spoken and written English is essential, coupled with a strong capacity to compile comprehensive reports and conduct engaging presentations.

Demonstrates exceptional analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, adept at developing plans from both programmatic and organizational viewpoints.

Proven ability to lead teams effectively, cultivate meaningful professional relationships, and engage stakeholders with diplomacy and strategic tact.

Experience working on TVET systems.

With a proven track record in collaborating with key tripartite labor market stakeholders—particularly the private sector and its digital industry representatives—to advance employment opportunities and foster decent work conditions.

Demonstrates a strong capacity for seamless collaboration with various departments and thrives in multicultural team environments.

Developing and adapting technical guidance and programming tools represents a key area of expertise, with a proven ability to design, refine, and implement such resources to meet evolving technical needs.

Demonstrates a steadfast dedication to fostering disability inclusion, advancing equality, and upholding justice within digital and employment environments.

Demonstrates flexibility and capacity to undertake extensive international travel, totaling up to 12 weeks annually.
