The Yard Marshal oversees the proactive management, coordination, and mitigation of risks associated with vehicle and pedestrian movements within yards and designated controlled areas.

This position involves more than just managing traffic flow; it encompasses identifying potential hazards, recognizing behavioral risks, preventing incidents, guiding drivers, and ensuring compliance with yard safety protocols. Additionally, the role requires overseeing the inbound and outbound movement of trucks in the transport yard, as well as supervising fueling operations.

The Yard Marshal ensures the safe, efficient, and disciplined execution of yard operations at the DHL Supply Chain site.

This position ensures timely dispatch, maintains yard safety, safeguards assets, and upholds operational excellence, all in accordance with DHL Supply Chain standards, HSE policies, and the organization’s continuous improvement framework.

Key responsibilities for this position encompass a range of critical functions, including but not limited to strategic planning, project management, stakeholder coordination, and performance analysis. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to meet strict deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing team operations, fostering collaboration, and ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations. Strong communication skills are essential for liaising with senior leadership, clients, and cross-functional teams to drive project success and operational efficiency.

Oversee the fuel unloading process into the Bowser and provide final approval for quality assurance.

Establishes feedback mechanisms for both in-house and contracted DSC drivers, fostering their active participation in operational enhancements and developmental initiatives.

Ensure the timely refueling of trucks beginning at 6:00 AM daily, including weekends and public holidays, to facilitate early departures for distribution operations.

Ensure trucks depart Maharani for KBL promptly while consulting the KBL operations team to confirm the suitability of trucks and trailers.

The position requires strict adherence to yard safety protocols, such as decoupling and coupling operations, maneuvering in reverse within the yard, and overseeing vehicle movements to the car wash area.

Maharani yard management involves segregating the parking area to accommodate loaded and empty trailers, as well as facilitating vehicles on VOR (Vehicle Off-Road).

Consistently engage with staff and address concerns by maintaining a visible presence on the floor at regular intervals.

Upon conducting pre-trip inspections, thoroughly verify that all trucks departing to county destinations possess valid county permits.

Ensuring trucks flagged with mechanical failures are promptly rerouted to designated workshops for expedited repairs, facilitating timely intervention.

Patrol and uphold pedestrian safety protocols within the designated yard area to ensure compliance with established regulations.

Ensure strict adherence to all pertinent work instructions and standard operating procedures throughout the operation.

Enforce directional traffic flow exclusively within the Maharani yard.

Prepare and endorse fuel delivery inspection vouchers (DIVS) for company-owned vehicles as well as those operated by third-party contractors.

Responsible for managing and directing the flow of trucks, forklifts, delivery vans, motorcycles, pedestrians, and contractors within the yard to ensure safe and efficient traffic movement.

Ensure the fleet fueling process is conducted with precision, verifying that fuel quantities align with approved DIV specifications. Confirm the presence of a seal and padlock as critical security measures following each fueling procedure.

Maintain a clean yard, ensure clear demarcations, visibility of signage, and unobstructed access pathways.

Track the operational status and upkeep of yard equipment, including wheel chocks, traffic cones, barriers, and dock locks.

Damages to infrastructure, vehicles, trailers, or cargo must be reported without delay.

Maintain the security and integrity of DHL and customer assets at all times.

Analyze and identify health and safety risks affecting drivers—whether those operating company-owned vehicles or subcontracted drivers—then implement measures to mitigate or eliminate these hazards within the yard environment.

Investigate workplace incidents promptly, documenting and reporting findings while addressing compliance issues such as unsafe behavior, speeding, aggressive driving, distracted drivers (e.g., phone use or fatigue), improper reversing techniques, vehicle hazards, or failure to follow marshal instructions. Ensure strict adherence to all applicable safety regulations and established procedures throughout the process.

Assess vehicle-related risks such as inadequate load securing, fluid leaks, mechanical malfunctions, or vehicles that are overloaded or unstable, and take timely and assertive action to avert potential incidents.

As a critical function, reversing and maneuvering control requires you to serve as a proficient bandsman for truck reversing, docking procedures, and operations in confined spaces. Utilize standardized hand signals and radios for communication purposes. Terminate operations without delay when: visibility is compromised, pedestrians enter hazardous zones, or unsafe conditions arise.

As needed, assist with incident investigations, lead toolbox talks, and perform safety observations to proactively identify and mitigate workplace hazards.

Evaluate yard layout, signage, and traffic flow operations, identifying opportunities for enhancement to optimize efficiency and safety within the facility.

Continuously monitor the yard environment to proactively identify potential hazards, such as blind spots, congested areas, weather-related risks, and reduced visibility conditions, before they escalate into more serious issues.

Report all site-related incidents in strict accordance with the established risk and incident reporting Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

Verify that all trucks departing from DHL facilities to their destinations possess current county permits, valid insurance coverage, and an up-to-date NASA inspection certificate.

Conduct thorough inspections to verify that all trucks are in optimal physical condition and fully operational before use.

To safeguard operations, maintain robust security protocols that protect personnel, DSC assets, and customer products throughout the designated operational scope.

Implement the DSC 6 Steps security framework seamlessly across the entire operation or specific operational segments to ensure robust protection.

Precisely document every trailer activity—including arrivals, departures, and movements—within the Yard Management System (YES) or through manual logging procedures.

Ensure the integrity of seals, the condition of trucks, and the accuracy of documentation are all in compliance with DHL and customer specifications.

Verify adherence to DHL’s operational protocols, audit criteria, and the terms outlined in customer agreements.

Maintain precise and auditable yard records to facilitate internal and external audit processes.

Verify that the delivery documents align precisely with the truck specifications while it is stationed within the yard.

Accurate collection and dissemination of decoupled trailer information to the appropriate team are essential.

Verify that all delivery documentation aligns with the details of parked or decoupled trailers to ensure accuracy and compliance before proceeding with further actions.

Ensure all delivery documentation is properly recorded and submitted to security personnel at the designated gate.

Additionally, you may be tasked with other responsibilities as assigned.

About you

A diploma or equivalent qualification in Logistics or a closely related discipline is required.

With a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a fast-paced transport setting, specifically as a yard marshal, you bring essential expertise to the role.
