The Senior Electrical Systems Specialist will lead technical initiatives in power quality management, electrical system optimization, and the integration of Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This position plays a pivotal role in project execution, commissioning, troubleshooting, and the creation of standardized electrical solutions to uphold reliable, efficient, and high-quality installations throughout the company’s expanding portfolio.
FUNCTIONS
Conduct power quality analysis and troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues relating to power factor, harmonics, voltage fluctuations, and system instability.
Assess and optimize Power Factor Correction (PFC) systems and capacitor banks to prevent overcompensation and minimize utility penalties.
Craft and evaluate electrical distribution boards, single-line schematics, and protective configurations tailored to solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) initiatives.
Spearhead electrical commissioning initiatives and provide guidance to installation teams throughout system energization and troubleshooting of faults.
Configure and refine inverter and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) control settings to maximize operational efficiency while maintaining robust grid synchronization. Optimize system parameters to enhance performance, stability, and seamless interaction with the electrical grid, ensuring reliable energy management and adherence to technical standards.
Conduct protection coordination studies and validate the operational integrity of electrical protection devices.
Engineer and standardize electrical panel designs while supervising fabrication processes to uphold stringent quality and uniformity standards.
Analyze and address harmonic distortion, voltage imbalance, and additional power quality issues that impact overall system performance.
Offer technical assistance to project teams throughout the design, installation, commissioning, and operational stages.
Create and implement comprehensive internal engineering standards, protocols, and recommended methodologies specifically for electrical systems to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance with industry best practices.
Provide guidance and support to electrical technicians and engineers through structured training and mentorship initiatives, aiming to strengthen internal technical expertise and promote effective knowledge sharing across the organization.
Partner with engineering, project management, operations, and service teams to develop and implement dependable, high-quality energy solutions.
Maintain adherence to electrical standards, safety protocols, utility regulations, and industry best practices to ensure operational compliance.
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field, complemented by a minimum of five years of professional experience in a related discipline. Additionally, fluency in English and another language is essential, along with strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills. Proficiency in digital tools, including Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis software, is required. The ideal applicant will demonstrate a proven track record of project management, leadership, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering is required.
Individuals possessing a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering, combined with significant practical experience in the field, may be deemed eligible for consideration.
Professional registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (ELK), the Kenya Engineering Technician Registration Board (METRO), or an equivalent professional body is highly advantageous.
With at least a decade of hands-on experience in electrical power systems, industrial installations, renewable energy, or comparable domains, candidates should demonstrate deep technical expertise and proven proficiency.
Proven expertise in the integration of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is required.
Possesses in-depth expertise in power quality analysis, power factor correction systems, and protection coordination.
Experienced in performing electrical commissioning duties and resolving system issues through troubleshooting methods.
Requires expertise in electrical design and analysis software, including AutoCAD Electrical, TAP, or similar platforms.
