The Senior Electrical Systems Specialist will lead technical initiatives in power quality management, electrical system optimization, and the integration of Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This position plays a key role in project execution, commissioning, troubleshooting, and the creation of standardized electrical solutions to maintain reliable, efficient, and high-quality installations throughout the company’s expanding portfolio.

FUNCTIONS

Perform comprehensive power quality assessments and diagnostic evaluations to pinpoint and rectify issues associated with power factor discrepancies, harmonic distortions, voltage variances, and system instability concerns.

Evaluate and enhance Power Factor Correction (PFC) systems and capacitor banks to avert overcompensation and reduce utility penalties.

Design and evaluate electrical distribution boards, single-line diagrams, and protection schemes tailored for solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.

Oversee electrical commissioning processes and collaborate with installation teams to ensure safe system energization and effective fault diagnosis.

Configure and optimize inverter and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) control parameters to guarantee efficient functionality and seamless interaction with the grid.

Conduct protection coordination studies and confirm the proper functionality of electrical protection devices.

Design electrical panel configurations and establish standardized specifications while managing fabrication processes to uphold stringent quality and uniformity standards.

Investigate and resolve issues related to harmonic distortion, voltage imbalance, and other power quality problems that impact system performance.

Provide expert technical assistance to project teams throughout the design, installation, commissioning, and operational phases.

Establish comprehensive internal engineering standards, protocols, and recommended practices specifically for electrical systems.

Deliver structured training and mentorship programs to electrical technicians and engineers to strengthen internal technical competencies and promote effective knowledge sharing.

Work collaboratively with engineering, project management, operations, and service teams to develop and implement high-quality, reliable energy solutions.

Ensure adherence to electrical standards, safety protocols, utility regulations, and industry best practices.

Educational and professional credentials, along with a minimum duration of relevant work experience, are essential prerequisites for this role. Candidates must possess a [specified degree, certification, or credential] from an accredited institution, demonstrating foundational knowledge in the field. Additionally, a minimum of [X years] of hands-on experience in a comparable professional setting is required to ensure practical proficiency. Professional registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (ELK), the Kenya Engineering Technician Registration Board (METRO), or an equivalent professional organization is highly advantageous.

With a minimum of a decade of hands-on experience in electrical power systems, industrial installations, renewable energy, or closely related disciplines, the ideal candidate brings a wealth of practical expertise to the role.

Proven expertise in integrating Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is required.

Proficient in conducting power quality assessments, designing power factor correction solutions, and implementing protection coordination strategies.

Requires proficiency in electrical commissioning processes and systematic troubleshooting techniques to ensure system functionality and reliability.

Requires expertise in electrical design and analysis software, including AutoCAD Electrical, TAP, or similar applications.

Proficient in relevant IEC standards and utility interconnection requirements is required.

Analytical acumen, clear communication abilities, and proven leadership experience are essential.
