Operational/Professional/Business:

We are seeking a dynamic individual to oversee critical operational, professional, and business functions with precision and strategic insight. The ideal candidate must demonstrate expertise in optimizing workflows, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving efficiency across multiple departments. Responsibilities include managing day-to-day operations, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and implementing best practices to enhance organizational performance. Assist in formulating and implementing the Legal department’s strategic initiatives.

Monitor and analyze Kenya’s legislative landscape to ensure the organization remains compliant with all applicable legal obligations.

Maintain an in-depth grasp of regulatory matters and the applicable compliance landscape shaping business operations, while spearheading the creation of strategic solutions to ensure the organization effectively navigates and addresses regulatory challenges.

Management of litigation initiated against or on behalf of the business, as directed by the Head of Legal, Kenya, entails developing and implementing effective case strategies.

Provide assistance to the Head of Legal, Kenya in overseeing entity management and ensuring adherence to strong corporate governance standards for our client’s entities in the country.

Engage in collaborative cross-functional business projects and initiatives, identifying, evaluating, and addressing potential threats to mitigate legal risks while ensuring the fulfillment of key business objectives.

Prepare and finalize contractual documentation, engage in contract negotiations, and conduct comprehensive reviews to enhance operational effectiveness within the Legal sub-function. Additionally, design and implement standardized formats to streamline processes and improve efficiency across the department.

Perform essential administrative functions within the department to maintain resource availability, ensure uninterrupted information flow, and keep records current.

To strengthen the control environment within the Legal department in alignment with overarching business objectives.

Effectively convey information across various functions and within the department to ensure all stakeholders remain apprised of developments and to collaboratively resolve shared concerns.

Demonstrates strong leadership capabilities, fostering collaboration and driving team performance through clear communication, strategic decision-making, and motivational techniques. Exhibits the ability to inspire and guide cross-functional teams toward achieving organizational objectives while maintaining accountability and adaptability in dynamic environments.

Facilitate the development, execution, and attainment of the Legal sub-function’s strategic plans and objectives, ensuring alignment with the broader business strategy.

Effectively conveying the business significance and strategic relevance of this role’s area of responsibility to stakeholders is essential.

Seeking candidates with a strong academic background, relevant professional experience, and proficiency in key competencies. The ideal applicant must meet specific educational qualifications, possess hands-on experience in the field, and demonstrate mastery of essential skills and proficiencies required for the role. These include a combination of formal education, practical training, and specialized knowledge aligned with industry standards.

To qualify, candidates must hold a recognized legal degree from an accredited academic institution and demonstrate proficiency in delivering legal counsel to internal stakeholders.

Proven legal experience of at least three to four years obtained following formal qualification is required.

With a minimum of two to three years of experience in high-pressure legal environments, preferably within fast-paced law firms, you will bring valuable expertise to this role.

Successfully managed litigation matters with a proven track record of overseeing legal disputes from inception to resolution. Adept at coordinating with legal teams, clients, and external counsel to navigate complex legal proceedings efficiently. Skilled in analyzing case details, assessing risks, and developing strategic approaches to mitigate potential challenges. Demonstrated ability to ensure compliance with legal deadlines, maintain meticulous documentation, and deliver high-quality case management under pressure.

Proficiency in company secretarial practices and board-related matters (CPSK) is highly advantageous.

Comprehensive understanding of applicable local substantive and procedural laws, including Commercial Law, labor regulations, land legislation, factory and manufacturing compliance standards, and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements, among other relevant areas.

Demonstrates exceptional proficiency in negotiation, written correspondence, and verbal articulation to effectively convey ideas and resolve disputes.

Demonstrates exceptional strategic thinking, analytical capabilities, and sound judgment in decision-making processes.

Demonstrates strong self-motivation, the capacity to take independent action, and the ability to effectively lead and collaborate with colleagues at all levels, including peers and senior leadership.
