Job purpose

Compounding and dispensing medications are performed with precision and professionalism, ensuring patient safety and optimal care. This role includes close collaboration with medical and nursing teams to deliver the highest standard of pharmaceutical services.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties and responsibilities to ensure efficient operations and team productivity. Collaborate with cross-functional departments to align objectives, streamline processes, and foster a cohesive work environment. Develop and implement strategic initiatives that enhance performance metrics, drive continuous improvement, and support organizational goals. Monitor workflows, assess outcomes, and provide actionable feedback to optimize team effectiveness and accountability. Additionally, maintain clear communication channels to facilitate transparency, resolve challenges proactively, and cultivate a culture of excellence and innovation.

Responsible for fulfilling prescription orders by accurately gathering and preparing medications as directed by healthcare providers.

Pharmaceutical compounding involves the customized preparation of medications tailored to individual patient needs, ensuring precise dosages and formulations that may not be available commercially. This specialized practice requires expertise in drug interactions, sterile techniques, and regulatory compliance to maintain safety and efficacy. Qualified professionals must possess a thorough understanding of pharmacology, compounding equipment operation, and quality control measures. Responsibilities include accurately measuring, mixing, and dispensing active pharmaceutical ingredients, as well as maintaining detailed documentation of each compounded preparation. Adherence to Good Compounding Practices (GCP) and relevant state or federal guidelines is essential to meet legal and ethical standards.

Remaining current with the most recent pharmaceutical developments and their market accessibility is essential to ensure optimal patient care and compliance with regulatory standards.

Process prescriptions submitted by licensed medical professionals to ensure accurate dispensing of medications.

Compiles and organizes patient prescriptions with precision and accuracy.

Confirm eligibility for insurance coverage and validate prescription details with precision.

Maintains pharmacy inventory through regular checks of pharmaceutical stock to assess inventory levels, forecast required medications and supplies, initiate and follow up on orders, verify deliveries, and eliminate expired medications.

Ensures a secure and orderly pharmacy environment by adhering to established protocols, guidelines, and compliance standards.

Safeguards the well-being of both patients and staff by strictly following established infection-control policies and protocols.

Organizes medications for dispensing by interpreting medication orders and prescriptions, generating labels, determining quantities, and preparing intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical therapies.

Maintains accurate documentation by systematically recording and organizing physicians’ orders and prescriptions for efficient retrieval and compliance with regulatory standards.

Ensures the timely availability of medications by distributing them to patients and various departments as required.

Compiles reports by gathering and consolidating relevant data.

Report adverse drug reactions and substandard medications to the pharmacy and the Poisons Board promptly.

Minimum qualifications and requirements include a bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as finance, accounting, business administration, or economics, along with a minimum of three years of professional experience in a relevant role. Strong analytical skills, proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools, and exceptional attention to detail are essential. Candidates must demonstrate effective communication abilities, both written and verbal, and the capacity to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment. Familiarity with industry-specific software, regulatory standards, and compliance protocols is also required. Additionally, the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving business needs is critical for success in this position.

Holder of a pharmacy diploma issued by Kenya Medical Training College or another accredited medical institution.

Licensed and regulated by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

We require candidates to hold a valid professional license in good standing within their respective field of practice.

With a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a high-volume dispensing unit, you bring a proven track record of efficiency and accuracy to the role. Your background demonstrates your ability to thrive in fast-paced environments where precision and timely service are paramount.
