Job Description

This role represents an entry-level professional accounting position where the incumbent applies accounting principles to specialized records and reports, assisting in the daily upkeep of a precise and comprehensive general ledger and generating basic financial statements.

We are seeking a detail-oriented individual to oversee project execution, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Key duties include developing strategic plans, coordinating team efforts, and monitoring progress to achieve organizational objectives. The role involves conducting risk assessments, implementing mitigation strategies, and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders. Additionally, you will analyze performance metrics, prepare comprehensive reports, and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency. Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies is essential, along with the ability to adapt to dynamic business environments while fostering collaboration across departments.

Compiling journal entries alongside adjusting entries constitutes a fundamental aspect of this role.

Initiating general ledger file maintenance, performing account reconciliations and reviews, and clearing outstanding ledger items are core responsibilities of this role. The position involves ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records through systematic maintenance and thorough examination of ledger accounts. Additionally, the incumbent is tasked with promptly resolving any discrepancies or pending entries to uphold the completeness of the financial data.

Review expenditures to ensure alignment with budgetary allocations, reconcile discrepancies, perform detailed investigations as needed, and process correcting journal entries.

Assisting in compiling diverse financial estimates and expense reports.

The position involves performing audits of project accounts to ensure adherence to established policies, as well as communicating with relevant stakeholders about the status of these projects.

Assisting in the development and guidance of priesthood leaders and other junior accounting staff represents a key responsibility.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related field is required. A minimum of three years of professional experience in software engineering or a related technical role is necessary. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential. Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure is preferred. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are critical. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are also required. Experience with Agile methodologies and version control systems like Git is a plus.

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business management—with a specialization in financial accounting—is a mandatory requirement for this role.

Professional certification and active membership in recognized accounting or auditing organizations, such as the Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (CPA(K)), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ARCA), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), are required.

Incumbents are required to possess a comprehensive understanding of the accountant code of conduct and exhibit a solid foundation in financial and accounting theory and policies, with particular expertise in generally accepted accounting principles.

Requires a minimum of four to six years of hands-on accounting experience in a professional setting.
