Job Description

Finance team members are tasked with receiving, recording, and overseeing funds donated in accordance with sacred and confidential guidelines, ensuring their proper stewardship and alignment with the Church’s religious objectives under the guidance of senior ecclesiastical leadership. This role functions as an entry-level accounting position, wherein the employee applies established accounting principles to manage specialized financial records and reports, while supporting the daily operations to maintain a precise and comprehensive general ledger and generate essential financial documentation.

Oversee and execute a diverse range of duties encompassing operational management, process optimization, and strategic planning to ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and performance metrics to enhance efficiency, productivity, and compliance across departments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for innovation, cost reduction, and quality improvement while maintaining high standards of accountability and transparency. Foster a culture of continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making, regular performance evaluations, and targeted training initiatives. Ensure adherence to industry regulations, safety protocols, and ethical guidelines while promoting sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, supporting their professional growth and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Compiling journal entries and performing necessary adjustments are essential duties, ensuring accurate financial recording and compliance with accounting standards.

Initiates general ledger file maintenance, performs account reconciliations, conducts reviews, and resolves outstanding ledger items.

Responsibilities include analyzing expenditures in relation to budget allocations, performing required reconciliations, conducting thorough investigations into discrepancies, and implementing corrective journal entries as needed.

Compiling accurate financial estimates and expense reports forms a critical component of the role, involving meticulous data compilation and analysis to support organizational decision-making processes.

Responsible for reviewing project accounts to ensure adherence to established policies, and for liaising with relevant stakeholders to communicate project status updates.

Assisting in the education and guidance of priesthood leaders and junior accounting staff.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of five years of experience in software development, preferably in a leadership or senior role. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential, alongside experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure. Strong problem-solving skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a collaborative mindset are also necessary. Familiarity with agile methodologies and version control systems like Git is preferred.

Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business management, with a specialization in financial accounting.

Qualified professionals with active membership in recognized professional bodies, such as CPA(K), ARCA, or CISA, are required.

The role requires a thorough grasp of the accountant code of conduct and a solid foundation in financial and accounting theory and policies, with particular emphasis on generally accepted accounting principles.

Requires a minimum of four to six years of hands-on accounting experience in a professional setting.

Extensive experience utilizing computerized accounting systems is essential for this position.

You should possess strong proficiency in essential computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, along with substantial hands-on experience in their practical application. Familiarity with Oracle or People soft systems would further enhance your candidacy for this role.

Demonstrates strong analytical skills to interpret and resolve intricate accounting issues and thoroughly evaluate financial statements.

A strong candidate will demonstrate the capacity to design and implement accounting systems with a focus on risk mitigation.

Strong reconciliation expertise is essential for this role.

Must demonstrate strong self-motivation and a proactive approach to achieving objectives.

Proficient in English with strong written and verbal communication skills in English required.

Must possess outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrate the capacity to engage effectively with colleagues, management, and priesthood leaders.

Requires an in-depth mastery of church organizational structures, governance, and operational frameworks.
