POSITION OVERVIEW:

The role involves overseeing the routine medical care of outpatients while mentoring and guiding junior medical staff. The Medical Officer leads the assessment and follow-up of outpatients, maintaining close communication with primary surgeons to address any substantial changes in a patient’s condition, ensuring appropriate treatment adjustments and coordinated management.

The primary responsibilities of this position include overseeing key operational tasks, ensuring adherence to established protocols, and maintaining high standards of efficiency and accuracy in all assigned duties. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines. Additionally, the position demands effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, address stakeholder needs, and provide clear, concise updates on project statuses. Proficiency in relevant software and tools, along with a commitment to continuous improvement, is essential to drive productivity and meet organizational objectives.

Overseeing and executing key responsibilities and duties, the incumbent will be tasked with a range of essential functions integral to the role. These include managing and coordinating projects, ensuring adherence to established guidelines and protocols, and maintaining accurate documentation. Execute diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the scope of clinical practice authorized for Medical Officers, as needed.

Examine pertinent pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic findings, then relay critical outcomes to the lead surgeon for informed decision-making.

Diligently document all patient interactions—including medical histories, examination results, management strategies, investigations conducted, and subsequent actions—in the patient’s official medical record.

Collaborate with the healthcare team to facilitate efficient patient flow and ensure seamless coordination of care throughout the facility.

Conduct comprehensive assessments of both outpatients and inpatients in collaboration with attending residents and/or lead surgeons.

Establish and oversee the diagnosis and treatment plan for the patient’s condition, which encompasses requesting essential radiology and pathology tests, administering suitable medication, and facilitating referrals for specialist consultations as needed.

Deliver concise, on-the-spot training sessions to junior medical staff to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge in real-time patient care scenarios.

Effectively engage with patients and/or their immediate family members to provide clear information regarding their medical condition.

Ensure at all times that the Medical Officer holds a valid and active license.

Overseeing clinical support services, this role encompasses leadership of Pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, biomedical engineering (boomed), and nutritional services departments.

Oversees the performance and activities of all clinical officers employed at the facility.

Contribute to departmental quality management initiatives in alignment with established Hospital Quality standards.

Oversee and perform additional tasks as assigned, ensuring full compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. Address any unforeseen operational challenges promptly to maintain workflow efficiency and team productivity. Collaborate with cross-functional departments to align on objectives and resolve interdepartmental discrepancies. Participate in special projects or initiatives aimed at improving processes, enhancing service delivery, or driving innovation within the organization. Ensure all duties are executed with a high level of professionalism, accuracy, and adherence to deadlines.

Hold a degree in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, engineering, or information technology) from an accredited institution, complemented by a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in software development, systems analysis, or a closely related technical discipline. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential, along with familiarity with database management systems and cloud computing platforms. Prior involvement in project leadership or mentoring roles is highly valued, as is a track record of contributing to design, implementation, and troubleshooting in fast-paced environments.

MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or an equivalent medical degree is required.

Licensed by the Medical Council of Kenya as a medical practitioner.

A proven track record in leadership or management training constitutes a valuable asset.
