POSITION OVERVIEW:

The role involves overseeing the routine medical care of outpatients while providing guidance and mentorship to junior medical staff. The Medical Officer leads the assessment and follow-up of outpatients, maintaining close communication with lead surgeons to discuss any substantial changes in a patient’s condition and determine appropriate treatment and management strategies.

Performs essential duties including evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with a variety of medical conditions; conducting thorough patient assessments, including medical history reviews and physical examinations; developing and implementing individualized treatment plans; collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure coordinated care; maintaining accurate and detailed patient records; adhering to all medical protocols and safety standards; staying current with advancements in medical practices and technologies; providing patient education on health management and preventive care; responding promptly to medical emergencies and urgent patient needs; and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements in healthcare delivery.

Performs critical duties and tasks central to the role, encompassing a broad range of responsibilities integral to the position’s success. Accountable for executing core functions that drive operational efficiency, ensuring all obligations are met with precision and adherence to established standards. Engages in key activities that support organizational goals, maintaining accountability for outcomes while aligning with strategic initiatives. Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the Medical Officer’s defined clinical practice parameters, as necessary.

Examine pertinent pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic documentation, then relay significant findings to the primary surgeon for review.

Diligently document all patient interactions, including comprehensive medical histories, thorough examinations, treatment strategies, diagnostic tests, and interventions directly into the official medical record.

Support the facilitation of care coordination efforts to enhance patient throughput within the facility.

Conduct comprehensive evaluations of both outpatient and inpatient cases in collaboration with assigned residents and/or lead surgeons.

Conduct and oversee the diagnostic process and therapeutic management for patients, which involves initiating essential radiology and pathology investigations, administering suitable medications, and facilitating specialist consultations as needed.

Deliver concise, on-the-spot educational sessions to junior medical staff.

Provide clear and compassionate updates to patients and/or their immediate family members regarding their health status.

The Medical Officer must maintain an active and valid license at all times.

Oversees various clinical support services, such as Pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, boomed, and nutritional services.

Oversees the performance and coordination of all clinical officers across the facility.

Participate in quality management activities within the department as per the Hospital Quality standards.

Additionally, other responsibilities encompass performing various tasks as assigned to support operational efficiency and meet organizational objectives. This may include collaborating with cross-functional teams, assisting with special projects, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. The role may also involve preparing reports, maintaining records, and contributing to process improvements where necessary. Education and Experience Requirements:

Applicants must possess a relevant bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as business administration, finance, or accounting. A minimum of three years of professional experience in financial analysis, auditing, or a comparable role is required. Proficiency in financial software and data analysis tools, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, is essential. Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity is preferred but not mandatory. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication abilities and a solid understanding of regulatory compliance standards.

MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) degree or an equivalent qualification is required.

Licensed by the Medical Council of Kenya as a medical officer.

A leadership and management course or relevant experience represents a valuable asset to any candidate’s profile.
