The Financial Controller for the Emerging Markets Region is a senior finance leadership position with responsibility for overseeing financial governance across four country operations: Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and South Sudan. This role demands a finance professional of exceptional capability, adept at operating within varied regulatory landscapes, leading geographically spread teams, and ensuring the delivery of precise financial reporting to the Group CFO. Established to bolster finance leadership capacity, this position aims to allow the Group CFO to concentrate on broader strategic initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and advancing progress toward the organization’s $100 million BAG.

Oversee and execute a range of duties encompassing strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance efficiency, productivity, and compliance with industry standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive project completion, foster innovation, and address challenges in a timely manner. Monitor performance metrics and provide data-driven insights to inform decision-making processes. Serve as a liaison between departments, stakeholders, and leadership to facilitate clear communication and maintain cohesive workflows. Responsible for ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance in financial reporting processes, the Financial Reporting & Integrity role upholds the reliability of financial data through meticulous oversight and validation. This position involves maintaining adherence to regulatory standards, identifying discrepancies, and implementing corrective measures to mitigate risks. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to streamline reporting procedures and enhance transparency in financial disclosures. A strong understanding of accounting principles, proficiency in financial systems, and a commitment to ethical practices are essential for success in this position.

Responsible for overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes for all Emerging Markets entities, including those in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and South Sudan.

Consolidate and deliver a comprehensive Emerging Markets management accounts package to the Group CFO, including detailed Profit & Loss statements, balance sheet analyses, cash flow reports, and insightful variance commentary.

Oversee the reconciliation of intercompany balances between Emerging Markets entities and the broader Group, verifying that all reconciliations are finalized before the close of each reporting period.

Spearhead the statutory audit process across all Emerging Markets entities, serving as the principal point of contact for collaborating with local audit firms.

Accurate and timely filing of all local statutory financial statements in each jurisdiction must be ensured.

Ensures adherence to tax regulations and compliance standards across multiple jurisdictions, encompassing the preparation, filing, and reporting of tax obligations in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to gather and validate financial data, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all submissions. Stays current with evolving tax laws and regulatory changes, implementing necessary adjustments to maintain compliance and mitigate risks. Provides strategic guidance to stakeholders on tax implications of business decisions, optimizing tax positions while ensuring full regulatory conformity.

Ensure full adherence to tax obligations across all four jurisdictions: KRA (Kenya), TRA (Tanzania), ERA (Rwanda), and the applicable South Sudan revenue authorities.

Oversee VAT, PAYE, WHT, and CIT obligations across all jurisdictions, ensuring accurate and timely filing and payment compliance.

Monitor regulatory developments across markets and provide proactive counsel to the CFO regarding their potential impact on the Group.

Develop and maintain professional relationships with regional tax advisors, legal counsel, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and facilitate seamless operations.

Overseeing accounts receivable and payable functions is a key responsibility of this role. The position involves managing the timely collection of payments and ensuring accurate and efficient processing of vendor invoices. Additionally, it requires reconciling financial discrepancies, maintaining up-to-date records, and collaborating with internal teams to optimize cash flow and financial reporting. Oversee the Group Accounts Receivable (AR) and Group Accounts Payable (AP) functions across Emerging Markets transactions, ensuring direct line management responsibilities are fulfilled.

Establish regional accounts receivable targets, uphold credit and collections policies, and ensure Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) remains within Group-established benchmarks.

Ensure the accuracy and promptness of accounts payable processes across all four countries, while maintaining adherence to required approval protocols.

Ensure strict adherence to and prompt remittance of NSF and statutory deductions, with special attention to South Sudan and Tanzania.

Forward any substantial risks associated with accounts receivable or accounts payable to the Group Chief Financial Officer, along with actionable recommendations for resolution.

The position is responsible for overseeing cash and liquidity management, ensuring optimal allocation and strategic utilization of financial resources. Key responsibilities include managing daily cash flows, forecasting liquidity needs, and optimizing working capital to support operational continuity and growth initiatives. The role requires proficiency in treasury systems, cash positioning, and investment strategies, along with adherence to risk management policies and regulatory compliance. Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive financial efficiency and stability. Oversee multi-currency cash positions spanning Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and South Sudan, while developing consolidated weekly and 13-week rolling cash forecasts for the region.

To effectively manage foreign exchange risks, implement hedging strategies as needed to minimize exposure to currency fluctuations.

Optimize working capital cycles across all Emerging Markets entities while balancing the competing priorities of collections and supplier payment obligations.

Responsible for managing banking partnerships across various markets, guaranteeing sufficient financial resources and streamlined payment systems.

Compile regional cash reserve data in comparison to Group benchmarks and promptly escalate any potential liquidity risks for further action.

Delivers comprehensive budgeting, forecasting, and strategic business partnership responsibilities, ensuring alignment between financial planning and operational objectives while driving data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Oversee the regional budgeting and re-forecasting cycle in collaboration with the Group FP&A Manager and country-level operational leads.

Prepare and present monthly actuals versus budget analyses, accompanied by insightful commentary, for each country-specific entity.

Collaborate closely with country managers to enhance contract profitability, implement initiatives aimed at improving margins, and conduct thorough analyses of cost structures.

Monitor the revenue distribution for the PSP service line across the region and identify areas where GPM targets are not being met.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Seeking a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, coupled with a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a similar role.
