The Role
Oxfam in Africa seeks a seasoned Strategic Communications Advisor to enhance the Director’s external outreach and strengthen Oxfam’s presence across Africa and internationally.
This pivotal role sits at the core of Oxfam’s advocacy efforts, driving transformative communications strategies. You will craft and execute targeted messaging to elevate the Director’s public presence, guaranteeing their high-profile interactions—whether at global summits or media engagements—are compelling, consistent, and fully aligned with Oxfam’s mission.
In collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, Media and Communications colleagues, and partners throughout the confederation, you will spearhead the development, messaging, and implementation of high-impact engagements, ensuring seamless alignment between advocacy efforts, communications initiatives, and organizational strategy.
This position operates under the direct supervision of the Oxfam in Africa Director, while maintaining a secondary reporting relationship with the Media and Communications Lead.

We seek a seasoned communications specialist with extensive expertise in media relations, public engagement, and strategic advocacy. The ideal candidate will demonstrate superior writing and editorial proficiency, capable of distilling intricate policy matters into persuasive and accessible content tailored for key stakeholders.
You excel at cultivating meaningful relationships and communicating with authority when engaging high-level stakeholders in governments, international institutions, civil society, and partner organizations. Adept at operating in dynamic, high-stakes settings, you juggle competing priorities without compromising precision or thoroughness.
A strategic-minded professional who can pinpoint opportunities to enhance Oxfam’s influence and amplify the impact of leadership engagements. You bring a values-based approach, coupled with a steadfast dedication to social justice, gender equality, and Oxfam’s core mission. Proficiency in English and French is mandatory, with Portuguese as an additional asset.
