The ICT Assistant – Network Administration role reports directly to the Head of ICT and is tasked with evaluating information risks and overseeing the resolution of identified vulnerabilities to enhance IT security and mitigate risks across Kenya Tea Packers. This position collaborates closely with the Database Administrator, Business Intelligence, and Reporting teams to coordinate ICT system support. Additionally, the role ensures secure network connectivity within all Keep offices, as well as the integrity and security of the company’s systems.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to oversee a range of essential duties, ensuring operational efficiency and adherence to established protocols. The role involves executing specific tasks with precision, maintaining compliance with company standards, and contributing to team objectives through collaborative efforts. Additionally, the position requires managing responsibilities effectively, demonstrating strong organizational skills, and addressing any challenges proactively to support overall productivity and success.

Evaluates key performance indicators—availability, utilization, throughput, and latency—to maintain and enhance network performance at optimal levels. Oversees the strategic selection, installation, configuration, and rigorous testing of ICT equipment to ensure seamless integration and operational reliability.

Monitor and troubleshoot all communications while addressing networking issues by proactively implementing preventive measures for the IT network, systems, and software applications.

Present detailed findings and recommendations regarding identified vulnerabilities to the Head of ICT to facilitate corrective measures.

Conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessments utilizing established IT security tools and methodologies to identify and document any potential security risks or exposures present in the IT network, systems, and software applications.

Consults with users to define network specifications, evaluating workflow, access needs, data security, and other critical requirements. Develops comprehensive router administration plans, encompassing interface configuration and routing protocol design to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Maintains optimal network performance through proactive monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning, while promptly troubleshooting any issues that arise. Additionally, the role involves escalating unresolved problems to external vendors as necessary.

Develops, monitors, and evaluates network access to ensure robust security while maintaining current and accurate documentation of all network-related activities.

Conduct regular assessments of firewall rules, configurations, and logs in partnership with the Head of Enhance to strengthen cyber defense and security measures. This involves establishing and refining access privileges, control frameworks, and resource allocations to ensure robust protection against potential threats.

Support the ICT Manager by evaluating and proposing enhancements to existing ICT policies, including the Disaster Recovery Plan, the Company Technology Infrastructure and Systems strategy, and the Business Continuity Planning Standard Operating Procedures.

Maintain and update the ICT support helpdesk system while ensuring prompt, reliable, and ongoing assistance to all users of information and telecommunication systems.

Deliver foundational training and technical assistance to users on network access and software application utilization while collaborating with the ICT Manager to maintain comprehensive documentation for all information systems.

Collaborate with vendor support representatives to assess and revise Service Level Agreements (SLAs) while addressing technical challenges pertaining to end-user hardware, software, and network solutions such as MPLS, SD-WAN, and internet connectivity.

Ensure that all PCs, laptops, and servers within the domain or network are equipped with licensed and up-to-date operating systems, as well as current endpoint security software versions.

Ensure seamless interoperability of all computers with a variety of systems, including validation systems, file servers, email servers, application servers, and administrative systems.

Collaborate with the Head of ICT to develop the annual ICT training capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) budgets.

Execute any additional tasks delegated by the Systems Administrator or the Head of ICT as needed.

Document findings in detailed reports, prioritize risks based on severity, and recommend actionable mitigation strategies to enhance overall security posture. Proficiency in industry-standard tools and methodologies is essential, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Manages the ongoing operations related to threat and vulnerability assessments, ensuring systematic identification, evaluation, and mitigation of potential security risks. Oversees the implementation of monitoring tools and processes to detect emerging threats, while coordinating with cross-functional teams to address vulnerabilities promptly. Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and reporting mechanisms to enhance organizational security posture and compliance with industry standards. Requires expertise in cybersecurity frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and proficiency in relevant security tools and technologies.

Deliver comprehensive technical assistance to end users, addressing inquiries and resolving issues to ensure optimal system functionality.

Plan and oversee the installation and deployment of new hardware and software solutions. Manage the coordination of firmware updates and application upgrades to ensure system compatibility and performance optimization.

Work collaboratively with external vendors to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to both software and hardware systems.

The ideal candidate is required to have;

A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field is required for this role. Candidates must possess a four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited institution in one of these disciplines.

Minimum two years of hands-on experience in network administration is required.

Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEA) certification is required for this role.

Hands-on expertise in Network Installation, along with proficient configuration and management skills, is required.

Seasoned expertise in network infrastructure and protocols is essential for this role. A comprehensive understanding of routing, switching, and network security principles is required, along with hands-on experience in configuring and troubleshooting network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls. Familiarity with advanced networking concepts, including Plans, VPNs, and Los, is expected. Additionally, the ability to analyze network performance, optimize traffic flow, and ensure high availability is crucial.
