MPAA Research Centre is in search of a driven and technically proficient IT Assistant to become part of its Information Technology team.
This position delivers primary IT support for both office-based and field operations, maintaining dependable systems, facilitating uninterrupted communications, and ensuring precise data reporting within a fast-paced research and conservation setting.
The IT Assistant will function as the principal support liaison for end-users, addressing technical issues pertaining to hardware, software, and network infrastructure. Additionally, this role will encompass responsibilities for IT asset management and the maintenance of the Earth Ranger domain awareness system.
Key responsibilities encompass planning, organizing, and overseeing tasks to ensure efficient project execution. Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to align objectives with organizational goals. This role demands strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address challenges and optimize workflows. Proficiency in industry-specific tools and software is required, along with the ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels. Deliver first-tier technical assistance for desktop and laptop systems, printers, software applications, and user access-related concerns.
Provide timely diagnosis and resolution for network and connectivity issues to prevent escalation to the IT Manager.
Ensure the precision and completeness of the IT asset inventory while facilitating routine audits.
Facilitate Earth Ranger reporting processes, extract relevant data, and conduct fundamental analyses to support operational needs.
Oversee the operation of IT systems and provide support for regular maintenance, implementing updates, and resolving technical issues as they arise.
Deliver comprehensive IT and communication assistance to field teams and remote operational units, ensuring seamless technical functionality and connectivity.
Oversee the operational integrity and performance of Turbojet radio communication systems, as well as the associated field connectivity tools, ensuring seamless functionality and reliability in all operational environments.
Oversee the upkeep of IT documentation, knowledge base articles, and standard operating procedures to ensure accuracy and accessibility for all stakeholders.
Assist in the seamless integration and separation of employees by coordinating system setup and overseeing access management duties.
With a proven track record in the field, candidates should possess relevant professional experience and meet the necessary qualifications. The ideal applicant will have completed a degree in a related discipline or acquired equivalent expertise through hands-on work. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role. Additionally, familiarity with industry-standard tools and methodologies is required to perform tasks efficiently.
A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, or a comparable field—either at the diploma or bachelor’s level—is required.
A minimum of two years of professional experience in IT support, help desk operations, or systems administration is required.
Proficient in computer hardware, software, and foundational networking concepts.
Proven expertise in managing IT assets and providing user support within a fast-paced operational setting.
Proficiency in field communication systems, Earth Ranger, or radio systems would be beneficial.
A valid Kenyan driving license and an unblemished driving history are essential prerequisites for this role.
Consistently prepared to undertake extensive travel to field sites and remote operational locations.
