Purpose of the Job

The ICT Assistant – Network Administration reports directly to the Head of ICT and is tasked with evaluating information risk while assisting in the mitigation of identified vulnerabilities pertaining to IT security and risks throughout Kenya Tea Packers. This role involves coordinating ICT system support in collaboration with the Database Administrator for Business Intelligence and Reporting. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring secure network connectivity both within and between Keep offices, as well as safeguarding the integrity and security of all company systems.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties and responsibilities essential to the role, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational standards. Facilitate seamless workflows by coordinating tasks, managing schedules, and maintaining clear communication channels among stakeholders. Monitor performance metrics and project milestones to evaluate progress and implement corrective measures when necessary. Develop and uphold policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance efficiency, compliance, and quality outcomes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improvement and drive strategic initiatives that support long-term growth.

Evaluates key connectivity metrics—availability, utilization, throughput, and latency—to ensure optimal network performance. Additionally, oversees the strategic selection, installation, configuration, and testing of ICT equipment to maintain system reliability and efficiency.

Oversee and administer all communications while addressing networking issues by applying proactive measures to maintain the integrity of the IT network, systems, and software applications.

Present detailed analyses and actionable recommendations regarding detected vulnerabilities to the Head of ICT for implementation of corrective measures.

Conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessments utilizing established IT security tools and methodologies to identify and document any security or risk exposures present within the IT network, systems, and software applications.

Establishes network specifications through consultations with users and thorough analysis of workflow, access, information, and security requirements. Designs router administration by configuring interfaces and selecting routing protocols to meet organizational needs.

Maintains optimal network performance through proactive monitoring and analysis, as well as performance tuning, while troubleshooting issues promptly. Escalates unresolved problems to external vendors for further resolution.

Implements robust measures to safeguard the network by establishing secure access protocols, continuously monitoring system integrity, regulating user permissions, and conducting thorough assessments, while ensuring all documentation remains current and accurate.

Regular assessments of firewall configurations, rules, and logs are conducted in collaboration with the Head of Cyber Defense Enhancement to establish appropriate access privileges, security controls, and resource allocations.

Support the ICT Manager by evaluating and proposing enhancements to critical ICT policies, including the Disaster Recovery Plan, the Company Technology Infrastructure and Systems strategy, and the Business Continuity Plan Standard Operating Procedures.

The ICT support helpdesk system is maintained, with entries, updates, and follow-ups conducted as required. Additionally, comprehensive, prompt, and ongoing assistance is provided to all users of the information and telecommunication systems.

Deliver introductory training and technical assistance to users on network access and software applications while supporting the ICT Manager in maintaining comprehensive documentation of all information systems.

Collaborate with external vendor support teams to assess and revise service level agreements while addressing technical issues impacting end-user hardware, software, and network connectivity solutions such as MPLS, SD-WAN, and internet services.

Ensure that all desktop computers, laptops, and servers within the domain and network infrastructure operate on licensed, up-to-date operating systems and feature the latest versions of endpoint security software.

Ensure seamless interconnection of all computers with a variety of systems, including validation systems, file servers, email servers, application servers, and administrative systems.

Collaborate with the Head of ICT to develop the annual ICT training capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) budgets.

Execute any additional responsibilities delegated by the Systems Administrator or the Head of ICT.

Additionally, they assess the effectiveness of existing security controls and compliance with industry standards to mitigate risks.

Overseeing the day-to-day operations related to threat and vulnerability management, ensuring proactive identification, assessment, and mitigation of potential security risks, is a core responsibility of this role. This position involves coordinating responses to emerging threats, implementing necessary security measures, and maintaining continuous monitoring to safeguard organizational assets. Proficiency in threat intelligence and vulnerability assessment tools is essential, along with a strong understanding of security frameworks and compliance standards. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop and enforce security policies that align with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Provide technical assistance to end users, addressing their inquiries and resolving hardware, software, or network-related issues efficiently. Offer guidance on troubleshooting steps, system configurations, and application usage to ensure seamless operation. Maintain detailed records of support interactions, diagnoses, and solutions in the designated ticketing system. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, development, and operations, to identify recurring problems and contribute to long-term solutions. Stay current with emerging technologies, industry best practices, and product updates to deliver informed and proactive support. Ensure compliance with organizational policies and service-level agreements while delivering timely and professional resolutions.

Develop and oversee the execution of installation and deployment strategies for new hardware and software systems. Manage the coordination of firmware updates and application upgrades to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance.

Liaise with vendors to address and resolve software and hardware-related issues efficiently.

The ideal candidate must have the following qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is required for this position.

Seeking candidates with a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in network administration roles.

Network & Security Certification: CCNA or CEH or

Hands-on experience in network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting is essential for this role.

An in-depth understanding of network infrastructure, protocols, and systems is essential. Proficiency in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting networks is required. Familiarity with routing, switching, and network security principles is necessary. Experience with network monitoring tools and performance optimization is preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are critical for resolving complex network issues efficiently.

Proven expertise in router installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
