The performance of the Accounting & Finance Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring optimal, responsible, and effective resource utilization, as well as accurate financial recording, accounting, and reporting. This position is instrumental in enabling management oversight, informed decision-making, and robust quality control.

Key responsibilities and duties encompass the following:

Prepare and assist with financial reports, data compilation, and queries to maintain compliance and ensure accuracy.

The Local Finance Focal Point is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of invoices, calculations, and submissions prior to forwarding them to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).

Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records by systematically reviewing and reconciling expenditures, account balances, and payment transactions to ensure precision and compliance with established procedures.

Data Management responsibilities include selecting, verifying, and entering information from multiple sources while maintaining strict standards for completeness and accuracy.

Prepare recurring and special reports to support audits, budgetary assessments, and other operational requirements as needed. This includes both scheduled and ad-hoc reporting ensuring timely and accurate data delivery.

Provide support for account closure procedures and contribute to the preparation of year-end financial statements.

Provide advisory support to staff and consultants regarding allowances, claims, and financial-related inquiries.

Initiate and maintain professional correspondence to verify information accuracy and resolve any discrepancies promptly.

Maintain strong connections with local banking institutions, track and analyze exchange rate fluctuations, and ensure accurate financial reconciliations.

Compile and analyze cost estimates while providing support for budgetary processes and projects.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing programs aimed at improving outcomes for children, collaborating with community partners, and ensuring access to essential resources and services. Additionally, you should possess strong problem-solving abilities, cultural competence, and the capacity to work effectively in diverse and challenging environments.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, computer science, or business administration. A minimum of three years of professional experience in a similar role is required, with a proven track record in project management or team leadership. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines. Proficiency in industry-standard software tools and platforms is mandatory. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities are also necessary to interact with stakeholders at all levels. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to evolving industry trends.

A secondary education credential is mandatory for this position.

A minimum of six years of professional experience in finance and accounting is essential for this role.

Ability to develop and oversee project plans, goals, and outcomes while monitoring resource allocation—including time, budget, and team capacity—and proactively identifying potential risks. Skilled in evaluating data, diagnosing challenges, and delivering practical recommendations to support informed decision-making. Demonstrated proficiency in leveraging digital tools, AI-driven platforms, and business systems to enhance data integrity, streamline analysis, and optimize reporting processes.

Fluency in English is a mandatory requirement for this role.

Desirables:

Proficiency in another official United Nations language—such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish—or the local language of the assigned duty station is regarded as a valuable asset.

Proficiency in finance and accounting coursework completed through professional programs or university studies is strongly preferred.

Experience at the country level, especially in development initiatives, fragile environments, and humanitarian crises, is highly advantageous.
