POSITION OVERVIEW:
This role oversees the ongoing medical care of outpatients, while also guiding and mentoring junior medical staff. The Medical Officer leads the evaluation and treatment of outpatients, maintaining communication with lead surgeons to address any critical patient updates and obtain expert advice on treatment protocols and care plans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
This role encompasses a range of critical responsibilities, including providing exceptional client service by addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly and professionally. The position involves managing complex administrative tasks, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. Additionally, the individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational efficiency, prepare detailed reports, and assist in strategic planning initiatives. Conducts a range of critical duties and fulfills key obligations, including but not limited to the following responsibilities: Delivers core functions as the primary focus of the role, ensuring adherence to established protocols and performance standards. Addresses primary objectives through systematic execution of assigned tasks, while maintaining accountability for outcomes and contributing to organizational goals. Performs essential activities that support operational efficiency and align with departmental priorities, demonstrating reliability and proficiency in core competencies.
Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the Medical Officer’s defined scope of clinical practice as needed.
Analyze pertinent pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic reports, then convey key findings to the primary surgeon.
Thoroughly document in the patient’s medical record the patient’s history, examination findings, management plans, requested investigations, and any actions taken throughout their care.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate seamless patient movement across the facility while ensuring streamlined care delivery.
Conduct comprehensive assessments of both outpatients and inpatients in coordination with the appropriate residents and/or attending surgeons.
Initiate and oversee the diagnostic process and treatment plan for the patient, encompassing the requisition of essential radiology and pathology examinations, the administration of suitable medication, and the facilitation of specialist consultations as needed.
Deliver impromptu educational sessions tailored for junior medical personnel.
Maintain open and clear communication with the patient and/or their immediate family regarding their medical condition.
At all times, the Medical Officer must hold a valid and current license.
Overseeing clinical support services, the role encompasses management of Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, Biomedical Engineering, and Nutritional Services.
Overseeing the performance and coordination of all clinical officers within the facility is a key responsibility. This role involves ensuring adherence to clinical standards, facilitating effective team operations, and maintaining high-quality patient care across all departments.
Engage in departmental quality management initiatives in accordance with established Hospital Quality standards.
Oversee additional tasks as assigned, ensuring organizational objectives are met with efficiency and precision. Responsibilities may include supporting cross-functional teams, managing special projects, or handling administrative duties beyond core responsibilities. Adaptability and a proactive approach are essential to address evolving priorities and contribute to overall operational success.

Education and experience requirements include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, computer science, or business administration, along with a minimum of five years of professional experience in a related industry. Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and standards is also essential for success in this role.
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) degree or an equivalent qualification.
Registered with the Medical Council of Kenya as a licensed medical practitioner.
A background in leadership or management courses, along with practical experience in such roles, would be highly advantageous.
