Our client, a premier telecommunications provider, is in search of a skilled Sectional IP Network Engineer to join their team. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of IP networking principles and the ability to design, implement, and maintain robust network solutions. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in IP routing and switching, network security, and troubleshooting complex network issues. Proficiency in network protocols, such as BGP, OSPF, and MPLS, is essential, along with hands-on experience with network hardware from leading vendors. Job summary/ Job purpose/ Role Intent:

The Sectional IP Network Engineer–Field will ensure MAN network availability and customer uptime KPIs by performing on-site power-related maintenance for assigned MAN nodes, maintaining service quality and continuity in alignment with company KPIs while adhering to budgeted costs. Additionally, the role involves conducting Feasibility & Implementation assessments and managing billing-related disconnections and reconnections of ISDN and PSTN circuits at the MAN level.

Key duties involve leading cross-functional teams to execute strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives while fostering collaboration across departments. Accountability extends to delivering measurable results through meticulous project oversight, adherence to timelines, and resource optimization to maximize efficiency. Responsibilities also include identifying growth opportunities, mitigating risks, and implementing innovative solutions to enhance operational performance and stakeholder satisfaction. Additionally, the role demands maintaining transparent communication with senior leadership, providing data-driven insights to inform decision-making, and upholding compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Ensure consistent MAN availability by proactively maintaining the power supply of the nodes.

Promptly address and resolve MAN and Switch power-related faults assigned to you while ensuring adherence to Service Level Agreements.

Key updates are facilitated throughout the restoration journey to guarantee the customer receives comprehensive and timely information.

Conduct feasibility assessments, implement ISDN and PSTN circuits, and manage their disconnection and reconnection processes.

Comprehensive customer setup documentation is required to ensure seamless onboarding and operational clarity. This includes detailed instructions, configuration steps, and troubleshooting guidelines tailored to user needs. Accuracy and accessibility are essential to facilitate efficient adoption and minimize support inquiries.

Ensure a secure work environment by adhering to HSE protocols, engineering standards, established procedures, and applicable legal regulations.

Monitor individual performance metrics and propose strategic initiatives aimed at continuous improvement.

Oversee and maintain accurate records of network expenditures, ensuring alignment with Finance department guidelines and objectives.

Performs additional responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by the line manager.

Principal Outputs for this role

Adhere to the designated monthly fuel allocation to ensure efficient resource utilization.

Monthly, submit Street MAN power meter readings to the finance department by the 20th of each month.

The Nairobi Means achieved an exceptional average MAN availability of 99.65% throughout the year, demonstrating a strong commitment to operational reliability and service excellence.

Ninety percent of Nairobi’s Medium and Small Area Networks (Means) must consistently meet their Power targets.

Ninety percent of all Nairobi Metropolitan Service Area Networks (Means) achieve a Power score exceeding ninety percent.

Upon receipt of payment, disconnected lines must be restored within a two-hour timeframe for at least 80% of cases.

Customer service level agreement (SLA) compliance requires that 80% of all provisioning and cessation cases assigned be resolved within a 24-hour timeframe.

Ensuring that at least 80% of reported faults are resolved within a four-hour timeframe.

Performing routine maintenance on all MAN nodes on a quarterly basis, you will assess and report the power autonomy status for each node while also providing recommendations to enhance their reliability and performance.

Ensure all allocated Feasibility tickets are addressed and resolved within a 24-hour timeframe.

The role requires a solid academic foundation and relevant professional experience. Candidates must possess the necessary educational credentials and practical expertise to excel in the position. Essential qualifications include a degree in a related field and demonstrated professional achievements.

A relevant Bachelor’s degree or a Higher Diploma in Telecommunications, accompanied by specialized training in technology or engineering, is required.

Demonstrated expertise in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite applications is required.

Possession of a valid Kenyan driving license is required.

Positions requiring prior experience in the field are preferred. Candidates must demonstrate relevant professional background through hands-on work, internships, or equivalent practical exposure. Familiarity with industry-standard tools, methodologies, and best practices is highly advantageous. Strong problem-solving abilities and a track record of delivering measurable results in similar roles will be prioritized during the evaluation process.

Proven track record with 3 to 5 years of experience in the telecommunications sector, specifically within the Welkom industry.

Strong organizational abilities are essential, along with a minimum of one to two years of hands-on technical experience within a prominent national network.
