Mariana Enterprises Ltd. is in search of a seasoned Earthworks Foreman to oversee and manage earthworks operations on road construction initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive practical expertise in road construction, with a comprehensive understanding of earthworks processes such as site clearing, excavation, embankment construction, fill placement, compaction, grading, drainage system preparation, and final formation works.

This position demands a highly organized and proactive professional capable of overseeing site teams, coordinating plant and equipment operations, and executing instructions from both engineers and site management. The ideal candidate will prioritize the safe, efficient, and precise completion of earthworks in strict accordance with project specifications.

Oversee the execution of primary duties, which include managing project timelines, coordinating team efforts, and ensuring adherence to organizational policies. Facilitate communication between departments to streamline workflows and address operational challenges promptly. Conduct regular evaluations of team performance to identify areas for improvement and implement targeted training initiatives. Maintain meticulous documentation of all proceedings to ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal standards. Collaborate with senior leadership to align departmental objectives with broader company goals and monitor progress toward achieving key performance indicators.

The Earthworks Foreman will oversee a range of critical responsibilities, including, but not limited to, the following tasks:

Responsible for overseeing on-site operations and managing earthworks activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards.

Oversee daily earthworks operations at road construction sites to ensure adherence to project specifications and safety standards.

Coordinate the clearing, grubbing, excavation, cut-to-fill operations, embankment construction, backfilling, spreading, grading, levelling, and compaction activities to ensure adherence to project specifications and timelines.

Verify that all work is executed in strict adherence to approved drawings, specifications, levels, alignments, and directives issued by the Site Agent, Project Manager, or Engineer.

Ensure adherence to specified quality standards for earthworks by verifying layer thickness, assessing moisture conditions, confirming compliance with compaction requirements, and evaluating overall workmanship.

Ensure unsuitable materials are accurately identified, properly segregated, removed, or promptly reported to site management as required.

Support the establishment of layout and level control while coordinating with surveyors to guarantee accurate execution of works in accordance with specified lines and levels.

Oversee the development of subgrade layers, road formations, shoulders, side drains, culvert approaches, and associated earthwork areas to ensure compliance with project specifications and engineering standards.

Ensure works are sequenced correctly to prevent delays, rework, and avoidable movement of plant and materials.

Labour, Plant, and Equipment Coordination involves overseeing the efficient utilization, scheduling, and deployment of workforce, machinery, and tools to ensure seamless project execution. This role demands meticulous planning, strong organizational skills, and the ability to align labor resources with operational demands while maintaining equipment availability and performance. Responsibilities include assigning tasks, monitoring progress, managing equipment maintenance schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. The position requires a keen eye for detail, problem-solving capabilities, and effective communication to facilitate coordination between teams, supervisors, and stakeholders. Proficiency in relevant software or tools for tracking and managing resources is often essential.

Coordinate the operation of various site machinery, including excavators, graders, rollers, water bowlers, tippers, bulldozers, loaders, and additional equipment as required.

Oversee plant productivity metrics and optimize machine utilization to enhance operational efficiency.

Document any instances of equipment malfunctions, periods of inactivity, fuel-related challenges, operator feedback, or maintenance requirements and promptly relay this information to site management.

Ensure that operators and labor teams are fully informed of daily objectives, designated work zones, mandatory safety protocols, and established quality standards.

Ensure the cultivation of a disciplined, productive, and collaborative work environment among all site personnel.

Ensuring adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance remains a top priority, requiring meticulous oversight and proactive measures to mitigate risks and uphold operational integrity. This role demands rigorous attention to detail, a deep understanding of industry-specific regulations, and the ability to implement robust systems that guarantee consistent performance while minimizing hazards. Verify that earthworks are executed with strict adherence to safety protocols, company standards, and project specifications.

Ensure safety protocols are strictly followed throughout excavation, haulage, tipping, compaction, and equipment movement operations.

Maintain compliance with site safety protocols by verifying that all workers adhere to established personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines and strictly follow safety instructions.

Observe and document hazardous situations, substandard craftsmanship, flawed materials, or imminent site hazards, and promptly notify the appropriate personnel.

Provide support in executing corrective measures to ensure that work outcomes align with established quality benchmarks.

Ensure the work site remains consistently clean, well-organized, and compliant with all safety regulations.

Duties include compiling reports and ensuring seamless communication between teams and stakeholders, with a focus on maintaining accurate records and facilitating efficient workflows. This role requires strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Responsibilities encompass gathering and analyzing data, distributing relevant information, and coordinating efforts to support operational objectives. Effective written and verbal communication is essential to convey updates, address inquiries, and resolve discrepancies promptly.

Prepare and submit daily progress reports to the Site Agent, Project Manager, or assigned site supervisor.

Maintain accurate daily records of work performed, employee attendance, equipment utilization, material transfers, project delays, and site-related challenges.

Prepare daily site reports as needed to support site operations.

Collaborate closely with surveyors, engineers, plant operators, storekeepers, subcontractors, and on-site personnel to ensure seamless project execution.

Any deficiencies in materials, workforce, machinery, fuel, water, or other essential resources that impede earthworks operations must be promptly reported.

Promptly address and escalate any technical issues, discrepancies in levels, design-related concerns, or site obstructions as needed.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, is essential. At least two years of experience in a similar role is preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities are required. Knowledge of project management principles is an asset. Familiarity with industry-specific software is beneficial. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently is crucial. The preferred candidate will possess the following qualifications:

A minimum of five to seven years of hands-on experience in road construction, complemented by extensive involvement in earthwork projects, is required.

A minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a Foreman capacity or an equivalent site leadership position is required.

Demonstrated expertise in overseeing earthworks operations for road construction initiatives is required.

Proficient in excavation, backfilling, compaction, grading, subgrade preparation, drainage-related earthworks, and formation works, with hands-on experience in these key areas.

Proven track record in overseeing the coordination of heavy construction machinery and earthmoving equipment operations.

Proficient in interpreting and analyzing fundamental drawings, site instructions, and work plans with accuracy and clarity.

Possesses a solid grasp of site safety protocols and construction quality standards.
