Investment Teams focus on sourcing acquisition opportunities, conducting thorough due diligence before finalizing investments, and actively managing portfolio assets. The Sustainability Manager contributes to the due diligence phase and remains engaged in the ongoing management, monitoring, and enhancement of the fund manager’s asset portfolio. The investment scope primarily encompasses core infrastructure assets, including toll roads, airports, ports, renewable energy sources (wind, hydro, and solar), as well as digital and telecoms towers. Additionally, the team targets medium-to-large enterprises operating across the African continent.
You will be responsible for:
Serving as the primary liaison for the fund manager, you will collaborate closely with them to gain a comprehensive understanding of their business operations, which will enable you to shape and refine the ESG and impact strategy of the fund manager effectively.
Interpret, spearhead, and enhance—where appropriate—the environmental and social management systems of the fund manager.
Assist investment teams in conducting ESG due diligence to assess whether potential investments align with OMAR’s ESG requirements, which encompass frameworks such as UN PRI, Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, IFC EHS and Sector Guidelines, as well as ILO and other pertinent standards.
Offer strategic guidance across diverse industries and investment types to adeptly oversee environmental, social, and governance risks while advancing the realization of beneficial outcomes.
Evaluate the sustainability dimensions of projects and provide support to specialists in executing initiatives while ensuring adherence to contractual obligations concerning the sustainability criteria of the various funds’ assets.
Support asset managers by collaborating on the oversight and strategic direction of assets to ensure compliance with sustainability obligations. Duties encompass on-site visits and direct engagement with management teams to foster alignment and accountability.
Preparation of investor and sustainability reports, alongside addressing ad-hoc ESG-related queries from investors, shareholders, and clients, is required.
Sustainability data management and analysis are conducted to extract valuable insights for both internal stakeholders and external clients from the gathered data.
Developing and delivering educational programs to enhance investment teams’ understanding of sustainability-related topics.
Ensure adherence to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) requirements in accordance with fund compliance standards.
Represents OMAR in public engagements to champion Sustainability-related discussions and initiatives.
Represent OMAR in various governance forums and committees, advocating on its behalf to ensure strategic alignment and regulatory adherence.
Offer strategic insights and innovative solutions through thought leadership initiatives, producing high-impact deliverables that drive industry advancement and organizational growth.
BA in Business Administration, Economics, or a related field required; an advanced degree is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite—particularly Excel—along with ERP systems and data analysis tools is essential. Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to interpret financial data effectively. Prior experience in budgeting, forecasting, or financial reporting is mandatory, as is familiarity with GAAP standards and regulatory compliance. Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities are necessary to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present insights to stakeholders. Proficiency in a second language is advantageous but not mandatory.
