The performance of the Accounting & Finance Associate plays a crucial role in maximizing resource utilization while maintaining accurate financial records, streamlined accounting processes, and reliable reporting—all of which strengthen management oversight, support informed decision-making, and uphold stringent quality standards.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

Prepare, compile, and analyze financial data to generate reports and respond to queries, ensuring compliance and accuracy in all financial documentation.

As the Local Finance Focal Point, you will be responsible for reviewing invoices, ensuring accuracy in calculations, and submitting documentation to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).

Monitoring and reconciling expenditures, balances, and payments for daily transactions to ensure accurate record maintenance.

Data management responsibilities involve selecting, verifying, and inputting data from various sources while maintaining completeness and accuracy.

Prepare recurring and special reports to support audits, budgetary evaluations, and other business requirements as needed.

Support the year-end account closure process and assist in the preparation of financial statements to ensure accurate year-end reporting.

The position involves offering expert counsel to staff and consultants regarding allowances, claims, and various financial considerations.

Initiate correspondence to verify data accuracy and resolve any discrepancies encountered.

As a Bank Liaison, your responsibilities will include cultivating and sustaining relationships with local banking institutions, tracking exchange rate fluctuations, and conducting thorough reconciliations of financial records.

Budget Support responsibilities include generating accurate cost estimates and actively participating in budget analysis and associated project initiatives.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, along with at least three years of professional experience in software development. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential, along with experience with frameworks like Spring or Django. Familiarity with database management systems, APIs, and cloud services is also required. Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams are necessary. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry trends.

A secondary education credential is mandatory for this position.

A minimum of six years of professional experience in finance and accounting is essential for consideration.

Demonstrated capability in developing and overseeing project plans, goals, and outcomes, along with monitoring resource allocation—such as time, budget, and team contributions—while proactively identifying potential risks. Strong analytical skills to interpret data, pinpoint challenges, and deliver data-driven recommendations for informed decision-making. Skilled in leveraging digital tools, AI-driven solutions, and business systems to enhance data integrity, streamline reporting, and drive operational improvements.

Fluent English proficiency is a mandatory prerequisite for this position.

Desirables:

Proficiency in an additional official United Nations language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language relevant to the duty station is viewed favorably.

Academic coursework or professional training in finance and accounting is strongly preferred.

Proficiency in country-level experience, especially within development initiatives, fragile environments, and humanitarian operations, is highly beneficial.
