The primary objective of this position is to effectively oversee and manage a specific range of duties and responsibilities within the organization. This role requires a high level of expertise and a commitment to achieving strategic goals through diligent execution of assigned tasks. The incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in relevant technical skills, adhere to established policies and procedures, and contribute to the overall success of the team or department. Additionally, the individual must possess strong interpersonal abilities to collaborate efficiently with colleagues, stakeholders, and external partners while maintaining a focus on delivering measurable results.

The ICT Assistant – Network Administration role involves reporting to the Head of ICT and is tasked with evaluating information risks while aiding in the resolution of identified vulnerabilities pertaining to IT security and risks throughout Kenya Tea Packers. This position collaborates with the Database Administrator, Business Intelligence, and Reporting teams to manage ICT system support. Additionally, the role ensures the establishment and maintenance of secure network connectivity within Keep offices, as well as safeguarding the integrity and security of the company’s systems.

Duties and responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, managing team performance, and ensuring adherence to company policies. Implementing strategic initiatives to enhance productivity and efficiency is a key requirement, as is collaborating with department heads to align goals and drive organizational success. Additionally, the role demands strong leadership to mentor staff, resolve conflicts, and foster a positive work environment. Proficiency in data analysis and reporting is essential for tracking progress and making data-driven decisions. The ideal candidate must possess excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels and uphold the company’s reputation through consistent service excellence.

Evaluates connectivity metrics—availability, utilization, throughput, and latency—to ensure optimal network performance. Additionally, oversees the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of ICT equipment to maintain system reliability and efficiency.

Monitor and oversee all communications infrastructure while proactively addressing networking challenges to maintain optimal performance of IT networks, systems, and software applications through strategic preventive measures.

Present identified vulnerabilities, along with supporting findings and actionable recommendations, to the Head of ICT to facilitate timely corrective measures.

Conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessments by leveraging advanced IT security tools and established methodologies to identify and document any security or risk exposures present within the IT network, systems, and software applications.

Establishes network specifications through collaborative discussions with users, evaluating workflow, access, information, and security requirements, and developing router administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols.

Maintains optimal network performance through continuous monitoring and analysis, as well as performance tuning, while promptly troubleshooting any network issues; when necessary, escalates unresolved problems to external vendors.

By implementing robust network access protocols, enforcing stringent monitoring measures, and conducting thorough evaluations, this role ensures the integrity and security of the network infrastructure. Additionally, the position involves maintaining current and accurate documentation to support ongoing operations and compliance requirements.

Conducting regular assessments of firewall rules, configurations, and logs in collaboration with the Head of Cyber Defense to establish access privileges, control frameworks, and resource allocations.

Assist the ICT Manager in evaluating and proposing enhancements to all ICT policies, including the Disaster Recovery Plan, the Company Technology Infrastructure and Systems Strategy, and Business Continuity Planning Standard Operating Procedures.

The ICT support helpdesk system is managed by entering, updating, and tracking tickets to ensure seamless operations. Reliable, responsive, and high-quality assistance is delivered to all users of the information and telecommunication systems, addressing their needs promptly and thoroughly.

Deliver foundational training and assistance to users on accessing the network and utilizing diverse software applications while supporting the ICT Manager in the upkeep of documentation for all information systems.

Collaborate with vendor support representatives to assess and modify SLAs while troubleshooting technical issues related to end-user hardware, software, and network connectivity (including MPLS, SD-WAN, and internet services).

Ensure that all PCs, laptops, and servers within the domain and network adhere to licensed and updated operating systems, as well as the latest versions of endpoint security software.

Ensure seamless interconnection of all computers with a variety of systems, such as validation systems, file servers, email servers, application servers, and administrative systems.

Collaborate with the Head of ICT to develop the annual ICT training capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) budgets.

Other responsibilities may include tasks delegated by the Systems Administrator or the Head of ICT as required.

Collaborate with stakeholders to address findings and implement remediation strategies to enhance overall security posture. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging threats, attack vectors, and industry best practices to ensure assessments align with current cybersecurity standards.

Overseeing the continuous operations of threat and vulnerability management processes remains a core responsibility. This includes ensuring the seamless execution of daily tasks related to identifying, assessing, and mitigating security risks. The role demands a proactive approach to monitoring emerging threats, analyzing vulnerabilities, and implementing corrective measures to safeguard organizational assets. Strong analytical skills, technical expertise, and the ability to prioritize effectively are essential to maintain robust security posture and compliance with relevant standards.

Provide technical assistance to end users, addressing hardware, software, and network-related inquiries to ensure seamless system operations. Troubleshoot issues efficiently to identify root causes and implement timely solutions, minimizing downtime and enhancing productivity. Maintain detailed records of support interactions, including incident descriptions, diagnostic steps, and resolution outcomes, for future reference and reporting purposes. Collaborate cross-functionally with IT teams to escalate complex issues and implement preventative measures to reduce recurring problems. Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry best practices to deliver informed recommendations and improve overall support quality.

Develop and oversee the installation and deployment of new hardware and software systems. Manage the coordination of firmware updates and application upgrades to ensure optimal performance and security.

Engage in proactive communication with external suppliers to address and rectify issues pertaining to software malfunctions and hardware defects.

The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is required.

With a minimum of two years’ experience in network administration, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in managing and maintaining network infrastructure.

We are seeking candidates who possess a recognized Network & Security Certification, such as the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEA), or an equivalent credential.

Experienced in deploying, configuring, and maintaining network infrastructure, with a strong background in installation and setup processes. Proficient in handling network configurations to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

A strong grasp of networking principles and technologies is essential.

Proven expertise in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of routers is required.
