Purpose of the Job

The ICT Assistant – Network Administration, under the supervision of the Head of ICT, evaluates information risks and coordinates the remediation of identified vulnerabilities pertaining to IT security and risks throughout Kenya Tea Packers. This role involves collaborating with the Database Administrator, Business Intelligence, and Reporting teams to manage ICT system support. Additionally, the position ensures secure network connectivity both within and across Keep offices, as well as the integrity and security of the company’s systems.

Oversee and execute the primary functions and obligations associated with this position, ensuring all assigned tasks are completed with precision and adherence to established standards. Facilitate key operational processes, manage critical assignments, and contribute to the achievement of organizational objectives through diligent performance. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and maintain high levels of efficiency in all work activities. Demonstrate accountability in meeting deadlines, fulfilling responsibilities, and upholding professional standards in accordance with company policies and industry best practices.

Evaluates key connectivity metrics—availability, utilization, throughput, and latency—to ensure optimal network performance. Additionally, oversees the strategic selection, installation, configuration, and testing of ICT equipment.

Monitor and oversee all communication systems while troubleshooting network issues, ensuring seamless operation through proactive preventive measures for IT infrastructure, systems, and software applications.

Present your discoveries and suggestions regarding identified security vulnerabilities to the Head of ICT to facilitate prompt corrective measures.

Conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessments by leveraging IT security tools and established methodologies to identify and document any IT security or risk exposures present across the network infrastructure, systems, and software applications.

Conferring with users, the role analyzes workflow, access, information, and security requirements to establish network specifications. Additionally, it involves designing router administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols.

Maintains network performance through continuous monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning, while proactively troubleshooting any network issues. Additionally, escalates unresolved problems to vendors, as needed.

Secures the network through the development of access protocols, continuous monitoring, stringent control measures, and thorough evaluation processes, while ensuring all documentation remains current and accurate.

Regular evaluations of firewall rules, configurations, and logs are conducted in collaboration with the Head of Cyber Defense and Security to establish access privileges, governance frameworks, and resource allocations.

Support the ICT Manager in evaluating and proposing enhancements to existing ICT policies, including the Disaster Recovery Plan, the Company Technology Infrastructure and Systems strategy, and the Business Continuity Planning Standard Operating Procedures.

We are responsible for entering, updating, and tracking information within the ICT support helpdesk system, ensuring seamless operations. Additionally, we deliver prompt, accurate, and uninterrupted support to all users of the information and telecommunication systems.

Provide foundational training and technical assistance to end-users on network access and software application usage, while collaborating with the ICT Manager to ensure accurate maintenance of all information systems documentation.

Collaborate with third-party support representatives to assess and revise service level agreements while troubleshooting technical issues related to end-user hardware, software, and MPLS/SD-WAN/internet connectivity.

Ensure that all PCs, laptops, and servers within the domain or network are operating with licensed and up-to-date operating systems, as well as the latest versions of endpoint security software.

Ensure seamless interconnection of all computers with a variety of systems, such as validation systems, file servers, email servers, application servers, and administrative systems.

Collaborate with the Head of ICT to develop the annual ICT training capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) budgets.

Execute any additional responsibilities as directed by the Systems Administrator or the Head of ICT.

Overseeing the operational aspects of threat and vulnerability management, this role involves directing daily activities to ensure robust security posture. Responsibilities include monitoring, assessing, and mitigating potential risks to safeguard organizational assets. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying vulnerabilities, implementing corrective measures, and maintaining compliance with security standards. Strong analytical skills and expertise in threat detection tools are essential, along with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to address security incidents promptly. Experience in security frameworks and risk assessment methodologies is highly desirable.

Offer comprehensive technical assistance to resolve issues encountered by end users, ensuring prompt and effective solutions to maintain operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Develop and oversee the deployment of new hardware and software solutions while managing firmware updates and application upgrades to ensure optimal system performance and compatibility.

Liaise with external vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues pertaining to software malfunctions and hardware defects, ensuring timely and effective communication to minimize operational disruptions.

The position requires candidates to hold qualifications including the following:

A degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is required for this role.

Minimum of two years’ practical experience in network administration is required.

Network & Security Certification: Candidates must possess a recognized certification in networking and security, such as the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEA).

With practical exposure to network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting, the ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in deploying and managing network infrastructure. Experience in configuring routers, switches, firewalls, and other networking devices is essential, along with a strong understanding of TCP/IP protocols, subletting, and Plans. The role requires the ability to diagnose and resolve network issues efficiently while ensuring optimal performance and security. A solid background in network hardware setup, cabling, and network documentation is also expected.
