Role Summary

Mariana Enterprises Ltd. is in search of a seasoned Earthworks Foreman to oversee and manage earthworks operations for its road construction projects.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate extensive practical expertise in road construction, with a solid background in earthworks operations such as land clearing, excavation, embankment creation, fill placement, compaction, grading, drainage system preparation, and formation works.

The position demands a highly organized and self-driven professional capable of overseeing site teams, aligning plant and equipment operations, adhering to engineer and site management directives, and guaranteeing that earthworks are executed safely, efficiently, and in strict accordance with project specifications.

Oversee and execute core duties that drive operational success, including strategic planning, team leadership, and performance optimization. Manage daily workflows to ensure alignment with organizational goals while fostering an environment of accountability and innovation. Collaborate cross-functionally to streamline processes, resolve challenges, and deliver measurable results. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance productivity and compliance. Provide guidance and mentorship to staff, promoting professional growth and fostering a collaborative workplace culture. Monitor key performance indicators to assess progress and identify opportunities for improvement. Represent the organization in external engagements, maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and upholding the company’s reputation.

The Earthworks Foreman will oversee and manage a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to the following duties:

Responsible for overseeing site activities and managing earthworks operations, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety protocols, and regulatory standards. Supervises on-site personnel, coordinates equipment utilization, and monitors progress to maintain productivity and quality. Addresses technical challenges, implements corrective measures, and ensures timely completion of earthmoving tasks while prioritizing worker safety and environmental responsibility.

Oversee routine earthworks operations at road construction sites on a daily basis.

Coordinate grading, levelling, excavation, clearing, grubbing, cut-to-fill operations, embankment construction, backfilling, spreading, and compaction tasks, ensuring precise execution of each phase to maintain project integrity and efficiency.

Verify that all work is executed in strict adherence to approved drawings, specifications, levels, alignments, and directives issued by the Site Agent, Project Manager, or Engineer.

Oversee earthworks operations to ensure compliance with quality benchmarks, including evaluating layer thickness, moisture levels, compaction standards, and overall workmanship standards.

Identify, isolate, remove, or escalate any inappropriate content to site management as required.

Provide support in layout execution, level verification, and collaboration with surveyors to guarantee that all works are performed in accordance with the specified lines and elevations.

Oversee the preparation of subgrades, road formations, shoulders, side drains, culvert approaches, and other associated earthworks areas.

Diligently coordinate and sequence all tasks to prevent avoidable delays, rework, or unnecessary relocation of machinery and materials.

Coordinates labor, plant, and equipment resources to ensure seamless project execution, optimizing utilization while maintaining safety and efficiency standards. Develops detailed schedules, allocates resources based on project demands, and monitors progress to address any discrepancies promptly. Collaborates with project managers, supervisors, and site personnel to align operational needs with strategic objectives. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practices. Identifies opportunities to enhance productivity through continuous improvement initiatives.

Coordinate the deployment and operation of various types of heavy machinery, including excavators, graders, rollers, water bowlers, tippers, bulldozers, and loaders, as well as other essential site equipment, ensuring efficient and safe utilization throughout all project phases.

Track operational performance metrics and verify the optimal utilization of machinery to enhance production efficiency.

Promptly notify site management of any equipment malfunctions, periods of inactivity, fuel-related complications, operator feedback, or maintenance requirements.

Experienced operators and labor teams must be clearly informed of daily objectives, designated work zones, essential safety protocols, and quality benchmarks to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.

Uphold discipline, enhance productivity, and foster a collaborative work environment among all site personnel.

Key responsibilities include conducting thorough inspections, maintaining accurate documentation, and implementing corrective actions to align with internal policies and external regulatory requirements. Verify that earthwork operations are conducted with strict adherence to safety protocols, company guidelines, and project specifications.

Ensure adherence to safety protocols throughout the entire operational sequence, encompassing excavation activities, material haulage, tipping procedures, compaction tasks, and the maneuvering of heavy machinery.

Verify that all personnel adhere to established safety protocols and utilize mandated personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times while on-site.

Assess and document unsafe conditions, substandard workmanship, defective materials, and potential site hazards, promptly reporting findings to appropriate personnel.

Assist with the execution of corrective measures to address any deviations from established operational standards.

Ensure the site remains tidy, well-structured, and compliant with safety regulations at all times.

Responsible for overseeing reporting processes and facilitating effective coordination across teams, this role ensures accurate and timely delivery of data-driven insights. Collaborates closely with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and present key metrics while maintaining clear communication channels. Key requirements include proficiency in reporting tools, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently. This position demands meticulous attention to detail, exceptional organizational capabilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving within dynamic environments.

Submit daily progress reports to the Site Agent, Project Manager, or other authorized site supervisor.

Maintain accurate logs of daily work activities, employee attendance, equipment utilization, material transfers, any delays encountered, and site-related obstacles.

Prepare daily site reports as needed to ensure accurate documentation and facilitate effective site management.

Collaborate effectively with surveyors, engineers, plant operators, storekeepers, subcontractors, and on-site teams to ensure seamless operations and alignment across all parties.

Any deficiencies in materials, labor, equipment, fuel, water, or other resources that impede earthworks progress must be promptly reported.

Promptly escalate any technical problems, discrepancies in levels, design-related issues, or site obstructions for timely resolution.

Seeking a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in software development. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ is required, along with familiarity with database management systems and cloud platforms. The ideal applicant will demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions. Previous experience in Agile methodologies and version control systems is highly desirable.

With a minimum of five to seven years of hands-on experience in road construction, you have developed a solid foundation in earthworks.

A minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a Foreman capacity or an equivalent supervisory position on-site is required.

Demonstrated ability to oversee earthworks operations on road construction projects is required.

Proficient in earthworks operations, including excavation, backfilling, compaction, grading, subgrade preparation, drainage system installation, and formation work execution.

Proven expertise in managing and coordinating heavy construction machinery and earthmoving equipment operations.

Proficient in interpreting blueprints, elevation drawings, site-specific guidelines, and project execution plans.

Proficient in site safety protocols and construction quality standards, with a solid grasp of regulatory requirements and best practices.

Collaborate effectively with site engineers, surveyors, machinery operators, drivers, and labor teams to ensure seamless project execution.

Proficient communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for this role, enabling effective collaboration with teams and clients. Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required to interpret data and make informed decisions. Proficiency in project management tools, such as Asana or Trello, is necessary to ensure deadlines and objectives are met. A strong background in customer service ensures client satisfaction and loyalty.
