Leaf and Factory Security Manager

ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?  
The purpose of the Leaf and Operations Security Manager’s role is to provide a coordinated and cost-effective security risk management service to ensure that all business operations/activities within Kenya are effectively protected. The overarching purpose of this role is to provide a coordinated and comprehensive threat-driven security risk management service in Leaf and factory operations of the highest quality, ensuring that risks to company personnel, assets and business operations/activities are properly identified, evaluated, and countered in a timely and cost-effective manner.
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
East Africa Markets poses a dynamic but volatile business environment, with various criminal threats that may adversely impact our factory at Likoni road or GLT Thika, Leaf centres or residential areas of our IA’s. These include criminal threats to BAT and contracted personnel, including IA’s, assets, business information, operations, market share and business reputation. It is essential that our factories, leaf centres, market offices and IA’s are aware of these threats to enable an effective mitigation. An effective security programme is developed by the BAT Risk and Security Team to manage these threats and is critical to achieve business resilience.
As a critical member of the R&S Team, the role of the Leaf and Operations Security Manager is instrumental in the creation of security awareness, criminal incident management and related investigations to ensure that security operations in our factories, leaf centres, market offices and IA’s are conducted professionally, efficiently, and effectively with the objective to protect staff and company assets from criminal threats. In addition, the Leaf and Operations Security Manager is required to develop a secure environment in all our facilities through effective management of the security service provider/s in their execution and compliance of BAT security policies and procedures.
WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

Identify, analyse, and mitigate any potential criminal threats to BAT Kenya assets, personnel and visitors arising from security risks and report progress to the Risk & Security Manager EAM.
Manage poor security compliance and present improvements on security systems and/or procedures. .  Liaise with service providers for maintenance as required.
Identify, and analyse intelligence gathered in leaf growing, buying and selling operations. 
Investigate all security incidents within the leaf centres e.g., theft, fire, or other willful destruction of company property etc and present detailed and timely reports in prescribed report formats to the Country security manager, making recommendations on preventative measures to minimize future occurrence.
Inform the operations security manager immediately of any incident concerning Leaf operations, BAT staff, BAT contracted staff, farmers and compile an initial incident report within 24 hours of the incident occurring.
Meet with BAT managers and others in all leaf growing centres on a regular basis, at least once a month and report any breach of procedures or other security related control break downs / procedures to the operations security manager immediately.
Support the operations security manager in all security related activities at Likoni road Factory, primary and secondary supply chain.
Provide guidance and support to security managers from 3rd party logistics partners to ensure that BAT security policies and standards are understood and implemented in their service provision.
Deputize Operations security manager on any Leaf Security related issues, etc.
Monitor technology developments relevant to security operations, in particular those that can be used to secure the leaf operations, factory security, primary supply chain and BAT’s mobile and remote assets (e.g., vehicle and personnel tracking).
Generate creative ideas on how security objectives may be attained using smarter or more cost-effective approaches.
Liaise with all necessary law enforcement agencies to ensure coordination of all investigations activities to lead to successful prosecution of criminal acts.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE
ESSENTIAL
Experience Required

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in security management within the SAPS, Military, or private security sector.
Identifying and mitigation of security threats.
Managing 3rd parties and security service providers.
Working with Criminal Law, Government and Security agencies.
Physical security technology.
Developing Security Programmes and Plans.
Conducting Risk Assessments.
Process auditing capabilities.
Project managing security equipment implementation.
Managing service provider contracts.
Producing timely, accurate, detailed, and concise written and verbal reports.
Problem-solving.
Strong communication skills, attention to details, ability to engage with diverse stakeholders

Education / Qualifications Required

Security Management Professional – NQF level 6 education (CSMP, CPP, PSP).

BENEFICIAL
