Job purpose and key deliverables
British American Tobacco has an exciting opportunity for a Factory Logistics Lead to join our team in Nairobi.
The prime function of this role is to be accountable for and manage all logistics (transportation & warehousing) for the Nairobi factory & ensure provision of materials based on factory supply plan to drive on time in full customer order satisfaction
Key Deliverables
Primary accountability for management of all logistics operations within the network, including budgetary responsibility.
Primary accountability for supplier relationship management of logistics service providers and materials suppliers
Develop supply plans using the company approved forecasts of market demand to support procurement and manufacturing activities.
Establish plans for raw materials i.e. MRP (Materials Requirements Planning) to support production plans
Monitor and deliver stock holding targets for wrapping materials as per Co-plan agreement
Embrace a leadership style that enables alignment across the end to end supply chain (operations, end market, supply, demand, finance, security etc.) in East and Central Africa Operations.
Participate actively in the revision of existing processes and procedures related to transport and materials planning as a part of Continuous Improvement.
Design and drive an efficient and effective customer delivery scheme by having optimal balance of customer service and Logistics costs in place.
Continuously foster customer satisfaction through optimisation of the Supply chain service centre performance
Instigate continuous improvement initiatives with customer and suppliers, managing resource and actions from other functions into this process to deliver quality enhancement and cost reductions
Essential requirements
The job holder should have a degree in Business Administration/ Logistics plus 5-8 years’ experience in managing and developing logistics networks, their suppliers and capabilities within FMCG environment. A profound understanding of supply chain processes and their interactions is also required. An engineering degree will be an added advantage.
Logistics and especially transport functional expertise is a key success factor for this role. Detailed knowledge is required across a range of logistics activities including; logistics best practice, transport and Control Tower execution, multi modal / material supply solutions, direct deliveries to retailer, 3rd party and supplier management. An appreciation of the additional requirements when moving tobacco products and the additional security, excise and indirect tax implications is preferable.
Knowledge of ERP systems MRP (Materials requirement planning)
Continuous improvement background and Integrated Work Systems skill set
Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma
Experience in dealing with management of customs and Excisable goods
Experience in supplier / 3rd party / outsourced logistics solution management.
Experience in contract development, defining SLAs, processes, procedures and KPIs.
Advanced English
Desirable requirements
Proven business change management and implementation experience.
Practical outlook with pragmatic decision making abilities.
Strong interpersonal, communication skills, influencing, leadership skills and cultural awareness.
French is a plus
